FIFA Club World Cup 2025 viewers can watch the match through the referee's perspective. |
The Guardian reports that FIFA has just announced a list of 117 referees working at the 2025 Club World Cup. FIFA will attach cameras to the main referees, providing an unprecedented view of on-field situations for fans.
“We believe this is a great opportunity to give the audience a new experience, with images from the referee's perspective, from a never-before-seen angle,” said Pierluigi Collina, Chairman of the FIFA Referees Committee.
Mr. Collina also emphasized: “Cameras also support referee training, because reviewing what the referee sees plays an important role in the post-match evaluation process.” The former Italian “king in black” also highly appreciated the quality of the refereeing team participating in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
“We select referees based on the strict standards of recent FIFA tournaments. So as the standards are raised, it becomes more difficult to maintain quality. But we are working hard and hope that the referees will contribute to the success of this exciting tournament,” he affirmed.
In addition to attaching cameras to referees to provide viewers with a new perspective, FIFA also implemented a rule that if a goalkeeper holds the ball for more than eight seconds, his team will be awarded a corner kick instead of an indirect free kick as before. This rule is intended to limit time-wasting and help the game run at a faster pace.
