After the match, the defender born in 1990 received a question related to following Quang Hai closely throughout the match. In response, Theerathon Bunmathan surprised many people with his answer.
The Thai player said: "I think this is very normal in football. Actually, there is nothing special or remarkable. What do you want to answer from me in this interview?".
Theerathon’s statement has created mixed reactions on social media. Many Thai fans are excited by the unique personality of this defender. However, many people think that Theerathon is too arrogant and underestimates his opponents. In fact, Quang Hai was the one who sparked the opening goal of the Hanoi Police Club.
Meanwhile, Thairath newspaper expressed interest when commenting: "Although using gentle words, Theerathon's statement has profound implications when talking about the one-on-one confrontation with Quang Hai."
Quang Hai was also asked about being closely marked by Theerathon in this match. The Vietnamese midfielder said: "I think it's normal for me to be closely marked by my opponent. I always try my best in every moment on the field and have the desire to win.

Today, the whole team played with great determination. We prepared well for this match. Everyone followed the plan. Unfortunately, we did not achieve our goal of winning. Anyway, a draw is acceptable."
Theerathon was taken off the field in the 65th minute of this match. Explaining his decision, Buriram United coach Osmar Loss said: "My decision to take Theerathon off the field early was not for tactical reasons. He has just returned from a 3-month injury, so we want to control his playing time to avoid the risk of a relapse."
The return leg between Hanoi Police and Buriram United will take place at Chang Arena on May 21. The AFF does not apply the away goals rule. Therefore, the winner of the match in Buriram will be crowned champions. In the event of a draw, the two teams will have to decide the winner through extra time and penalties.
