Nghe An Two people were trapped in the elevator at the hotel and English Center in Vinh City due to a power outage and were rescued by the police.

At around 11:54 a.m. on June 4, a young man (28 years old, residing in Thai Hoa town) took the elevator from the first floor to the fourth floor of a hotel located in Trung Do ward, Vinh city. When he reached the fourth floor, the power went out, the elevator stopped, the victim realized he was trapped and called the authorities.

8 minutes later, on Nguyen Van Cu Street, Truong Thi Ward, a 17-year-old boy was also stuck in the elevator on the 3rd floor of an English Center due to a power outage.

Upon receiving the news, the Fire and Rescue Command Center (Nghe An Provincial Police) dispatched two rescue vehicles and 14 officers, divided into two working groups, to the scene. The authorities then opened the two elevator doors within a few minutes, bringing the victims out safely.

The two people trapped were drenched in sweat, after resting they calmed down.

The leader of Vinh City Electricity said that the power outage at the hotel in Trung Do ward was due to the Northern Power System Control Center requesting a power cut to ensure power supply in the area. The Electricity Company has notified customers via text message.

The power outage on Nguyen Van Cu Street, Truong Thi Ward, was caused by a road construction unit near the English Center affecting underground cables, causing a power outage for more than 40 minutes. The power outage was resolved the same afternoon.

"During an emergency power outage, messages arrive almost simultaneously, not 10-15 minutes earlier than planned. In case of force majeure, it is not possible to notify customers in advance," said the leader of Vinh City Electricity.

Over the past week, Nghe An as well as the northern and central provinces have been experiencing hot weather, with the highest temperatures ranging from 36-39 degrees Celsius, and in some places over 40 degrees Celsius. The demand for electricity has increased, but due to limited supply, many places have had to take turns cutting off power to reduce the load. Vinh City alone started cutting off power from the afternoon of June 3.

Earlier, at around 9am on June 3, an 11-year-old boy from Vinh City went to his relative’s house in Trang Son Commune, Do Luong District to play. While taking the elevator, he got stuck inside due to a power outage. The police had to unlock it in two minutes and get the boy out safely.
