Pham Le Nguyet Ngan once surprised her friends when she pursued a special passion: cosplaying cartoon characters.
While studying at Thoai Ngoc Hau High School for the Gifted ( An Giang province), Ngan was not only good at all subjects, but also showed her mettle in the IELTS exam. She achieved 8.0 after only 3 months of focused preparation, despite a period of serious illness before the exam.
Talking about the exam preparation process, Ngan said she did not "study day and night" like many other students. On the contrary, she kept a moderate study pace, focusing on building a basic foundation. For history, Ngan studied according to a roadmap, from basic to advanced, mastering events and time logic. For literature, she practiced test questions regularly, combined with reading more books and newspapers to improve her language and expression skills...
Pham Le Nguyet Ngan is not only a good student but also spends time pursuing her passion for cosplaying.
"High test scores are not only due to studying a lot but also due to studying properly and having a plan. As the exam approaches, I make a detailed timetable for each subject and each stage, from the capacity assessment exam to the national high school exam. Thanks to that, I maintain discipline and avoid stress" - Ngan revealed.
Unlike the image of a valedictorian who is only attached to the desk, this new student of International Relations has spent a lot of time pursuing her passion of cosplaying as cartoon characters "to balance her life". Ngan loves comics, anime and the vibrant atmosphere of cosplay festivals. She started cosplaying as cartoon characters in the summer of 2024, after participating in many Japanese cultural festivals.
"Cosplay helps me expand my relationships with talented friends, and at the same time relieve stress after hours of heavy studying. I see it as a way to recharge my energy, then return to studying more effectively" - Ngan confided.
Not only does Ngan enjoy dressing up, she also observes how cosplay events are organized and promoted to learn management and communication skills. Ngan’s parents do not object to her passion, they even personally took her from An Giang to Ho Chi Minh City to participate in cosplay events. Her friends are also delighted to see her appear in colorful costumes, completely different from her serious image in the classroom.
To balance between studying and personal interests, Ngan chooses to "study strategically". She often applies the Pomodoro method - focus for 25 minutes, then rest for 5 minutes - to maintain energy. During the week, she mainly spends her time studying, and the weekend is her chance to "let loose" with cosplay or extracurricular activities.
For Ngan, studying and pursuing passion are not contradictory. She considers cosplay as a source of motivation, while knowledge is a sustainable asset to pursue her dreams. The image of the new valedictorian of International Relations with her brilliant cosplay costume shows that if you know how to manage your time and keep a positive spirit, young people can completely conquer their academic achievements and live fully with their personal interests.
