On October 26th, at the second graduation ceremony of 2025 at Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, student Dang Thi Lan Thanh was honored as the valedictorian of the entire class with an average GPA of 3.85, achieving an excellent rating.

Lan Thanh's academic journey didn't start as smoothly as many of her peers. After graduating from high school in Ho Chi Minh City, she studied tourism at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City.

However, after two semesters, Lan Thanh realized she wasn't suited for the field. "I felt that if I kept studying, it would only be a waste of time, and it would be difficult to find joy in my work later," she shared.

Deciding to retake the entrance exam, Lan Thanh chose marketing, a field she believes is "closely linked to most economic activities and requires a lot of creative thinking." She chose to study at the college level to shorten the time, with the goal of graduating at the same time as her peers.

Upon entering university, Lan Thanh quickly demonstrated a proactive approach to her studies. She not only completed her program a semester early but also maintained an outstanding academic record.

"My secret is to listen carefully to the teachers' lectures in class. Many students only listen superficially, but actually, the knowledge is most vivid and easy to understand when the teachers are lecturing. If anything is unclear, I ask immediately to remember it longer," she said.

Besides studying, Lan Thanh still works part-time to cover her living expenses. Before her internship, Lan Thanh worked as a waitress at a restaurant. "My parents have covered my tuition fees, but I want to take care of my living expenses myself to ease the burden on my family," Thanh confided.

Later, during your internship at a marketing company, you were highly evaluated and offered a job after graduation.

Besides being an excellent student, Lan Thanh actively participates in extracurricular activities, especially English clubs. She believes that "foreign languages are a must-have skill if you want to expand your career opportunities."

Lecturer Huynh Ho Da Thien, M.Sc., in business administration at the Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, commented that Lan Thanh is a diligent student with a strong self-learning spirit.

"She regularly communicates with lecturers, independently researches additional materials, and is the first marketing student to proactively ask about accelerated learning to effectively manage her study time," commented Professor Thien.

Currently, Lan Thanh is continuing to work at the company where she interned, while also preparing to pursue further studies at university, majoring in economics.

For Lan Thanh, her journey of learning and working has only just begun. "Starting point doesn't matter. What matters is that you always strive and move forward, because a career is a long journey, not a destination," Lan Thanh shared.

Many students graduate early.

At the second graduation ceremony of the 2025 academic year at Ho Chi Minh City College of Economics, held on October 26th, 778 students were awarded diplomas. Of these, 106 students graduated ahead of schedule.

One of the outstanding examples is Pham Ngoc Anh Duong, a student majoring in information technology. Duong not only completed her studies early but also joined the Party at the age of 18 while still in 12th grade.

Sharing her experience of accelerating her studies, Anh Duong said: "Each year has two main semesters and one summer semester, and I make the most of all three to register for courses. The important thing is to know how to allocate your time wisely and truly put in the effort. Accelerating your studies doesn't mean rushing through the course, but rather studying diligently and with quality."
