10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City: Expected score distribution is higher than last year

Above average scores (over 5 points) are expected to be high in all 3 subjects in the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City.

More than 76,000 candidates in Ho Chi Minh City have completed the 2025 grade 10 entrance exam.

At the end of the exam, the exam questions for all three subjects (literature, foreign language and math) were assessed as suitable for the orientation of testing capacity and practical application capacity, not causing psychological shock to students, but still having good classification. The expected score distribution for all three subjects is high.

Emphasize applicability

Mr. Dang Huu Tri, Head of the Math Group at Nguyen Du Secondary School (District 1), said that the math exam for grade 10 admission in Ho Chi Minh City this year ensures the spirit of the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, with a structure similar to the sample exam that the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GD-DT) previously announced.

According to Mr. Tri, questions 1 and 2 are basic and familiar math problems for students. If they review carefully and calculate carefully, they will get full marks in this part. Question 3 is related to statistical probability, a new knowledge that has been introduced in this year's exam, but it is also a question at the level of understanding, so students can easily solve it. Question 4, students will solve it well because they have reviewed it in reference questions; question 5 on spatial geometry also has a moderate level of application. Students only need to read carefully and calculate carefully to get full marks. Question 6 is a practical type that requires students to reason to solve well. The practical math part in this year's exam from question 3 to question 6, if students do it carefully, they will get 3.5/4.5 points quite easily and not at all challenging for students.

With question 7, plane geometry question a, question b is a familiar form for students when reviewing for admission, so good students will solve both ideas well, while average students can only solve question a. Only question 7c requires deductive thinking, this is a question to classify students.

Mr. Duong Minh Toi, TOIDM Education Center for Skills and Thinking Development, said that unlike previous years' exams, this year's exam more clearly demonstrates the spirit of applied mathematics. The problems all have a practical context, an integrated educational perspective, closely following the program, linking capacity with practice, creating a good mindset for students, no longer too heavy on form or pure technique, with a good balance between skills and thinking.

Evaluating this year's exam further, Mr. Duong Minh Toi said that the exam is suitable for testing practical application and capacity, does not cause psychological shock to students, has good classification at the application level and high application (shown in questions 6, 7), and integrates well between knowledge and life situations such as charts, insurance, gardens, tennis boxes...

Will the benchmark increase slightly?

According to Mr. Toi, in math, if students review well and do their homework well, they will get 7-8 points. Good students with good strategies and analytical skills can exceed 9 points, in line with the trend of innovating exam questions and testing to assess students' abilities.

"It can be said that the exam questions are close and closely follow the reference questions that students have practiced, but there is also a clear differentiation of students. The average score range will be from 6 to 7.5 points. There will be a score of 10 if students have good thinking and do the test and present it carefully" - Mr. Tri assessed.

Previously, in both English and Literature, teachers commented that the exam had met both requirements of the 2018 General Education Program, while also evoking emotions, humanity and depth. Teacher Do Duc Anh, a teacher at Bui Thi Xuan High School (District 1), said that students can easily get a 7 in Literature if they know how to think, reason clearly and have writing skills.

The principal of a high school in District 3 said that unlike last year, this year's exam, although in line with the spirit of the new curriculum, did not shock students. The reason for this is that for many years now, the 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City has had a new direction, aiming to assess students' abilities and the ability to apply learned knowledge to solve specific life situations. However, this year's exam most clearly demonstrates the above goal. "The exam for all 3 subjects fulfills the role of testing and assessing students' abilities at each level, and the classification is clearly shown. The average score range (over 5 points) is expected to be high in all 3 subjects. "The score range is higher than last year, so the standard score is also expected to fluctuate in a slightly upward direction" - this person commented.

Guarantee candidate rights

On the afternoon of June 7, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training reported on the 10th grade entrance exam in 2025.

Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that on the morning of June 7, at an examination council in Thu Duc City, a candidate had a fever. The examination site coordinated with the medical department to provide care and encouragement, after which the candidate returned to the examination room according to regulations. At a 10th grade examination site in District 6, a candidate used a ruler with documents written on it, the examination council confiscated the evidence and suspended the examination.

In the afternoon of the same day, there was a candidate whose secondary school registered for the wrong type of integrated exam, leading to not having a name to take the type 2 integrated exam. The examination council supported the candidate to take the supplementary exam at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, which was correct for the type of exam the candidate registered for. At the Nguyen Huu Tho High School exam site, an exam room leaked due to heavy rain. The examination council moved the room for the candidate and made up for the time lost when moving the room.

The Chief of Office of the HCM City Department of Education and Training said that based on the situation reports, the 10th grade exam took place stably and smoothly, the organization was carried out strictly and in accordance with regulations. The authorities have prepared carefully, ensuring all necessary conditions for the successful organization of the exam. According to Mr. Minh, special attention was paid to the health care of candidates. Although there were some cases of candidates having health problems, the medical system at the exam sites operated effectively, provided timely support and handled flexibly, ensuring the rights of candidates. On the other hand, the handling of situations at the exam councils was carried out seriously but still ensured humanity, prioritized the rights of candidates, demonstrating a spirit of both strictness and fairness. Objective incidents regarding facilities and administrative work were resolved promptly and effectively.

Today (June 8) begins marking exams

According to the plan of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, from June 8 to 25, the 10th grade exam will be graded, the exam marking will be summarized and the exam results will be compared. The Department of Education and Training also noted that the exam results, benchmark scores and review time will be announced by the department in another document, based on the progress of the exam marking and actual results processing. Localities and secondary schools in the area are responsible for monitoring and updating the announcement from the Department of Education and Training, promptly disseminating changes, organizing instructions, support and answering questions for parents and students about the latest information related to the exam.

10th grade exam in Hanoi : Literature and foreign language exam questions are not difficult

On June 7, more than 102,000 candidates in Hanoi completed the first day of the 10th grade entrance exam with two subjects: literature and foreign language. The literature exam was assessed as being within the candidates' ability, and candidates could easily score 7-8 points. The materials and topics were familiar and close to life, and the literature exam had slight innovations.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, 102,440 candidates took the literature exam, accounting for 99.6%; 420 candidates were absent. At the city's 201 exam sites, there were no candidates or exam invigilators who violated the regulations.

During the foreign language exam, one candidate violated the regulations by bringing a mobile phone into the exam room; no exam supervisor violated the regulations. The number of candidates taking the foreign language exam was 102,434, reaching a rate of 99.59%. At 201 exam sites in the city, 426 candidates were absent.

In addition to English, candidates can choose one of the following languages: French, German, Japanese, and Korean. The English subject in the 10th grade entrance exam in Hanoi for the 2025-2026 school year consists of 40 multiple choice questions, mixed into 24 test codes, and candidates have 60 minutes to complete the test. Records at some testing locations show that many candidates left the testing room in a quite relaxed mood because English has been a strong subject for Hanoi students for many years.
