On the second day of the Lunar New Year, the commodity market was more bustling than on the first day of the Lunar New Year because at the beginning of the year, people mainly went to pagodas and went out.


Distribution system reopens

According to the quick market report on the second day of the Lunar New Year (January 30, 2025) of the Domestic Market Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade, today, a number of convenience store chains such as Circle K, Family Mart, B's mart, 7 Eleven, GS25 or large distribution systems such as AEON, Go! and Big C... are still open during Tet to serve people's shopping needs.

Commodity market gradually becomes more active on the second day of Lunar New Year

Previously, speaking to reporters of the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Anh Duc - Chairman of the Vietnam Retailers Association said that in order to implement Directive No. 12/CT-BCT dated November 20, 2024 on implementing solutions to ensure supply-demand balance, stabilize the market at the end of 2024 and the Lunar New Year 2025 of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, this year, retail businesses will sell until the 29th of Tet, only closing on the 1st, and reopening on the 2nd. Some other retail stores will sell throughout Tet, avoiding disruption of supply to the market.

In addition, at traditional markets, some vendors have displayed flowers and fruits for the New Year offerings and started selling green vegetables and fresh foods again (mainly fish, pork, beef, etc.). In general, the items consumed today are mainly green vegetables, seafood, flowers, and fresh fruits.

Commodity prices remain stable

Regarding commodity prices, prices of some essential goods on the second day of Tet at supermarkets were stable compared to the first day of Tet.

Accordingly, for food items, prices of regular rice, high-quality rice and delicious sticky rice serving the demand for Tet tend to be stable compared to the previous day. Specifically, the price of high-quality rice in the North ranges from 25,000 - 42,000 VND/kg; the price of sticky rice ranges from 29,000 - 38,000 VND/kg; in the South, high-quality rice ranges from 22,000 - 38,000 VND/kg; the price of sticky rice ranges from 27,000 - 34,000 VND/kg.

For fresh food products, pork, beef and mackerel prices (in the South) are stable compared to the previous day. Currently, pork prices are commonly at: rump 110,000-120,000 VND/kg, pork loin and belly 130,000-160,000 VND/kg; grade I beef tenderloin 250,000-280,000 VND/kg; featherless chicken 120,000-150,000 VND/kg; shrimp price (26-30 pieces/kg): 400,000-450,000 VND/kg.

Regarding vegetables, tubers and fruits, although the weather is getting colder, the supply of vegetables and fruits is quite abundant and diverse, so prices are stable. The prices of some common vegetables are as follows: cabbage: 10,000-15,000 VND/plant, kohlrabi: 5,000 VND/root, lettuce: 15,000-30,000 VND/kg, tomatoes: 10,000-15,000 VND/kg (depending on the locality), potatoes: 15,000-20,000 VND/kg, cauliflower: 10,000-15,000 VND/plant...

Regarding fruits, the prices of some delicious fruits, popular for going to pagodas, tend to be stable compared to the previous day, except for dragon fruit and mandarin oranges, which tend to increase locally in some areas. Specifically: Dragon fruit 60,000-90,000 VND/kg; Cat mango 50,000-60,000 VND/kg; Mandarin orange 50,000-77,000 VND/kg; Dien grapefruit 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, imported apples 100,000-120,000 VND/kg...

The prices of some flowers have increased slightly due to the demand for people to go to pagodas. The prices of some popular flowers are as follows: Lilies from 200,000 - 350,000 VND/dozen depending on the type; Gladiolus from 80,000 - 100,000 VND/dozen; large chrysanthemums about 40,000 - 60,000 VND/dozen; roses 50,000 - 70,000 VND/dozen...

For processed foods, the current common price of pork roll is from 150,000-170,000 VND/kg, the price of beef roll is about 280,000-300,000 VND/kg, the price of banh chung ranges from 50,000-70,000 VND/piece (depending on size and weight).

Prices of alcohol, beer, confectionery and jams remain stable, such as: Hanoi canned beer priced from 270,000-280,000 VND/carton; Saigon Special canned beer priced from 340,000-350,000 VND/carton; Heniken canned beer priced from 450,000-460,000 VND/carton; Cocacola, Pepsi priced from 180,000-190,000 VND/carton; Hanoi Vodka 700ml priced from: 120-130,000 VND/bottle; Hanoi jam priced from 65,000-108,000 VND/box of 200-300 grams; Sunflower seeds priced from: 80,000-120,000 VND/kg...

The Domestic Market Department forecasts that on the third day of Tet, trading activities will be more exciting than on the second day of Tet. Traditional markets have started selling again to serve people, mainly focusing on green vegetables, meat, and fish. Prices here have increased slightly compared to the time before Tet.
