According to data from the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Tri province, in October 2025, the whole province had more than 20,800 pigs infected with African swine fever, forced to be destroyed in 32 communes and wards with a total weight of over 1,435 tons, a decrease of more than 1,000 pigs destroyed compared to the previous month. Up to now, the epidemic has occurred in 11,590 households, causing 99,400 pigs to be destroyed. In the province, 33/64 communes and wards have had the epidemic for less than 21 days.
Currently, the total pig herd in the area is 456,130. After a period of leaving their barns empty, many farms have begun to re-stock to ensure food demand during the Lunar New Year.
Mr. Tran Cong Tam, Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, said that the unit is guiding people to organize controlled pig herd restoration, promote production of beef and poultry products to stabilize food supply to meet the needs at the end of the year; at the same time, recommending that farmers proactively implement a number of technical measures on biosafety farming according to the instructions of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine.
