Khe Sanh has many serious landslides and subsidence points.

QTO - On the afternoon of November 5, the People's Committee of Khe Sanh commune, Quang Tri province informed that due to heavy rain in recent days, many landslides and subsidence points appeared in the commune on Provincial Road 587 (DT.587) into the area of ​​​​Huc commune (old) and a household in Block 2.

Specifically, on Provincial Road 587, there are 4 damaged roadbeds and landslides on the negative slope at the following locations: Km5+200, Km6+300, Km10+600 and Km13+100. The overflow area at Km1+700 of Provincial Road 687 is severely damaged, deeply gouged, creating a frog-like jaw with the potential risk of collapse.

In addition, the bridge abutment to Ruong village, block 6 and Tran Hoang street is cracked; the concrete road in Pham Ngu Lao alley is sunk and cracked deeply.

At Km5+200, the reporter noted that the road surface was severely damaged, a hole nearly 3m deep appeared halfway down the road due to erosion caused by rainwater pouring down from above. Here, the erosion also extended for more than 10m along the roadside, causing many difficulties for people to travel.

Notably, at around dawn on November 5, at the household of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong, residing in Block 2, Khe Sanh Commune, serious cracks and landslides appeared. Ms. Thuong said: “Due to the rain that lasted for many days, cracks appeared in the front yard of the family's house a few days ago. From around 3-5 am on November 5, the entire yard of the family collapsed. Cracks began to appear on the walls and floor of the house; the garden area around the house also had landslides with water flowing out.”

Vice Chairman of Khe Sanh Commune People's Committee Nguyen Anh Cu said that for households experiencing subsidence, the commune has directed specialized departments and police, military , and grassroots shock forces to coordinate to support families in organizing the evacuation of people and property to safe temporary housing.

Regarding the landslides on the DT.587 route, the Commune People's Committee has reported and recommended that the authorities take measures to promptly fix and handle them. In the immediate future, the locality has directed the functional forces to coordinate with the villages and blocks to temporarily reinforce the minor landslides and install warning signs at the points to ensure safety. For the major landslide at Km13+100 in Ta Rung village (old Huc commune), we have mobilized to borrow land from a nearby household to temporarily open a road across the landslide to help people temporarily pass through when the weather is favorable.

Up to this point, the commune has evacuated vulnerable households at risk of landslides, with 4 households/14 people in Ta Rung village and 1 household/4 people in block 2 to a safe place.
