Lack of sand, Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway through Can Tho area facing difficulties

Sand material sources are not guaranteed in terms of volume and mining capacity, some sand mines have a large amount of mud so mining is ineffective. This is a bottleneck in the progress of the Project.

According to the Department of Construction of Can Tho City, the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Construction Investment Project Phase 1, Component Project 2, Component Project 3, Component Project 4, the section passing through Can Tho City has a total area of ​​about 816.64 hectares that must be cleared for the entire route.

Up to now, 3,641 households have handed over their land, reaching 100%. The investor has received 816.64 hectares from localities, reaching 100% of the area.

Regarding construction work, the Project has a total of 11 construction packages (10 construction packages and 1 traffic safety system construction package). The total value of the 10 main construction packages and 1 traffic safety system construction package is 8,748/19,902 billion VND, reaching 43.96%.

Regarding disbursement, from the commencement of construction to the reporting time, the Project has disbursed 13,143/18,640 billion VND, reaching 70.51%.

The disbursement in 2025 alone as of the reporting date is 1,885/7,286 billion VND, reaching 25.87% of the allocated capital plan. The investor strives to disburse 100% of the assigned capital plan.

As planned, the project will be completed and put into operation in 2027.

It is known that the biggest difficulty and obstacle of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang Expressway Construction Investment Project Phase 1, Component Project 2, Component Project 3, Component Project 4 is that the sand material source is not guaranteed in terms of volume and exploitation capacity, some sand mines have a large amount of mud so exploitation is ineffective. This is a bottleneck in the project's progress.

In addition, there is a solution to deal with weak soil; currently, the investor is urgently directing consulting units and construction contractors to coordinate surveys to conduct research and adjust design solutions and construction methods to shorten progress.
