In the 2024-2025 school year, Ha Giang province is expected to need to recruit nearly 2,000 teachers at all levels. Of which, in Quan Ba district, this school year, the locality needs to recruit 80 teachers. The demand is such, but in reality, the number of teachers applying for positions is lacking. So what solutions can localities in general and Quan Ba district in particular overcome the shortage of teachers and ensure teaching quality?

Educational institutions prepare facilities for the new school year |
In the 2024-2025 school year, Quan Ba district has 41 educational institutions, including 13 kindergartens, 11 primary schools, 13 secondary schools, 3 high schools, 1 vocational education and training center with about 20,000 students at all levels and nearly 1,400 cadres, teachers and employees working in education. This school year, the district education sector needs to recruit 80 teachers, of which the largest number of recruits are English and IT teachers. However, near the time of the new school year, the new sector is receiving nearly 60 applications, of which only 5 are English teachers.

In recent times, to overcome the shortage of teachers and improve the quality of teaching and learning, Quan Ba district has increased the implementation of consolidating schools into main schools. If in the 2015-2016 school year, the whole district had 91 satellite schools, this school year there are only 23 satellite schools. For example, Lung Tam Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities has 593 students this school year, of which 298 students were transferred from satellite schools. Currently, the school has only 2 schools and only grades 1 and 2 at these 2 schools.

Besides consolidating schools, another effective solution to overcome the shortage of teachers in Quan Ba district is to send teachers to study for a second degree in IT and English. In the past 3 years, 16 teachers have been sent to study for a second degree, including 15 IT teachers and 1 English teacher.

The solutions being implemented are showing positive results. However, currently in Quan Ba district, the proportion of teachers approaching retirement age accounts for 50% of the staff, along with that, the proportion of teachers rotating between localities in the province over the years has also increased. Therefore, the story of teacher shortage is an issue that requires the participation of all levels and sectors with fundamental solutions, solving the root of the problem.
