Import-export revenue decreases, illegal drug trafficking remains "hot"

Accumulated from January 1 to February 29, the State budget revenue reached 56,420 billion VND, reaching 15% of the estimate, down 2.4% over the same period last year.

The General Department of Customs representative said: Exports in February 2024 are estimated at 24.82 billion USD, down 28.1% (equivalent to a decrease of 9.71 billion USD) compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, imports in February 2024 are estimated at 23.72 billion USD, down 23.2% (equivalent to a decrease of 7.18 billion USD) compared to the previous month. Total imports and exports in February 2024 are estimated at 48.54 billion USD, down 25.8% (equivalent to a decrease of 16.89 billion USD) compared to the previous month. Thus, the trade balance in February 2024 is estimated to have a trade surplus of 1.1 billion USD.

In the first two months of this year, exports were estimated at 59.34 billion USD, up 19.2% (equivalent to an increase of 9.57 billion USD) over the same period last year, while imports were estimated at 54.62 billion USD, up 18.0% (equivalent to an increase of 8.33 billion USD) over the same period last year.

Total import and export in the first two months of this year is estimated at 113.96 billion USD, up 18.6% (equivalent to an increase of 17.9 billion USD) over the same period last year, the trade balance in the first two months of 2024 is estimated to have a trade surplus of 4.72 billion USD.

According to the representative of the General Department of Customs, the situation of smuggling and trade fraud in February 2024 continued to be complicated, especially the situation of illegal transportation of firecrackers tended to increase due to the peak month of the Lunar New Year 2024. Smugglers and illegal transporters of firecrackers took advantage of means of transport in and out of the country to hide firecrackers to deceive the authorities, concentrated in some localities such as Quang Tri, Nghe An, Lang Son ...

Illegal trading and transportation of drugs across the border remains complicated, mainly concentrated through Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, and Da Nang international airports from European and American countries; and by road from Laos to Vietnam.

In February 2024, the entire customs sector handled: 1,222 cases of customs law violations. The estimated value of violating goods is 1,671.7 billion VND. The customs agency has transferred 8 cases to other agencies for prosecution. The amount collected for the state budget: 67.6 billion VND.

Accumulated from December 16, 2023 to February 15, 2024, the entire customs sector has handled 2,475 cases of customs law violations. The value of violating goods is estimated at VND 3,289.4 billion. The customs agency has prosecuted 3 cases and transferred 18 cases to other agencies for prosecution. The amount collected for the state budget is VND 90.39 billion.

In February 2024, the customs sector presided over and coordinated with the police and border guards to detect and arrest: 29 cases/12 subjects, of which the customs agency presided over 23 cases. Seized evidence included 9.7 kg of marijuana; 3.15 kg of heroin; 30.4 kg of ketamine; 119.43 kg of synthetic drugs.

From December 16, 2023 to February 15, 2024, the customs sector presided over and coordinated with the police and border guards to detect and arrest 67 cases/61 subjects, of which the customs agency presided over 30 cases. The seized exhibits included 11.35 kg of marijuana; 17.8 kg of heroin; 43 kg and 900 ketamine pills; 145.89 kg and 3 synthetic drug pills; 3.99 grams and 50 other drug pills.
