Congratulating Ms. Tammi Lynn Sharpe on being appointed as UNHCR Representative at the Multinational Office in charge of Vietnam, Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc expressed his belief that during her term, she will contribute to further promoting the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and UNHCR.
Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc affirmed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Vietnamese authorities will always support and create favorable conditions for UNHCR to carry out its activities, in accordance with the interests and concerns of both sides.
The Deputy Minister acknowledged and thanked UNHCR for its cooperation and support to Vietnam in related areas, especially the task of reducing statelessness, which Vietnam is currently promoting in accordance with the Plan for implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) issued together with Decision No. 402/QD-TTg dated March 20, 2020 of the Prime Minister . The Deputy Minister also asked UNHCR to continue to cooperate closely and actively on issues of concern to Vietnam.

For her part, Ms. Tammi Lynn Sharpe expressed her joy at coming to Vietnam for the first time as a UNHCR Representative; thanked Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc for her congratulations and positive assessment of the cooperative relationship between UNHCR and Vietnam.
Appreciating Vietnam's efforts and achievements in resolving statelessness, the UNHCR representative hoped that Vietnam would continue to promote the implementation of the GCM Implementation Plan, including studying the accession to the Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness to contribute to the common efforts of the region and the world. Ms. Tammi Lynn Sharpe affirmed that she will continue to cooperate closely with Vietnam in the spirit of common understanding and long-term cooperation between Vietnam and UNHCR.

Over the past time, Vietnam and UNHCR have maintained close exchanges and coordination on many issues. The two sides successfully organized the Southeast Asia Senior Officials' Seminar on Civil Registration, Identity Documents and Prevention of Statelessness on October 25, 2023 in Hanoi.
