(MPI) – On July 11, 2024, the National Innovation Center (NIC), the Ministry of Planning and Investment , in collaboration with Google, organized the launching ceremony of the “Building Vietnam’s AI Future” program to promote the development of Vietnam’s AI sector. Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Tran Duy Dong attended and delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Attending the ceremony were Ms. Sapna Chadha - Vice President of Google Asia - Pacific and senior representatives of Google; Mr. Marc Woo, Managing Director, in charge of Vietnam, Google Asia - Pacific; Mr. Thye Yeow Bok, Director of Startup Ecosystem, Southeast Asia, South Asia and Greater China, Google Asia, along with representatives of central and local ministries, branches; representatives of universities, colleges; and businesses.
The “Building Vietnam’s AI Future” program focuses on two main pillars: Building for Talent and Building for Business. Each pillar addresses key areas to support Vietnam’s human resource development, nurture a thriving startup ecosystem, and strengthen the foundation to maximize AI adoption.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong highly appreciated and thanked Google for its support in training human resources and supporting Vietnamese enterprises in the field of information technology in general and AI technology in particular. At the same time, he emphasized that the program "Building Vietnam's AI Future with Google - NIC" is the result of close cooperation between the Ministry of Planning and Investment through the National Innovation Center and Google. This program demonstrates the commitment and strong support of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and Google in promoting the AI ecosystem in Vietnam to equip human resources with the necessary skills to seize opportunities in the AI era, while supporting startups to innovate based on AI technology.
Deputy Minister Tran Duy Dong believes that the program "Creating Vietnam's AI Future with Google - NIC" will bring many values to businesses, contributing to realizing the goal of Vietnam becoming a leading center for innovation and AI application in the region and the world .
Mr. Marc Woo, Managing Director, Vietnam, Google Asia Pacific, shared Google's commitment to continue to cooperate and develop AI in Vietnam. At the same time, he said that the Southeast Asian economy is growing rapidly, with rapid digital transformation, combined with the region's AI readiness, including Vietnam, which is forecast to achieve economic benefits of up to 835 billion USD from AI by 2030. With the advantage of a young population, a dynamic startup community, a high proportion of young people who are tech-savvy, and supportive policies from the Government through the national AI strategy, Vietnam is well-positioned to take advantage of AI opportunities.
Vietnam’s digital economy is expected to grow 11-fold by 2030, reaching a staggering $220 billion, equivalent to nearly half of Vietnam’s current GDP. AI is one of the key factors to realize this forecast. Together with NIC, Google believes that the “Building Vietnam’s AI Future” initiative will be a solid launching pad for domestic talents, startups and businesses, helping them make the most of Google’s best AI products and solutions, said Mr. Marc Woo.

The initiative focuses on two main pillars: Talent Creation and Enterprise Creation. Each pillar addresses key areas to support Vietnam’s human resource development, nurture a thriving startup ecosystem, and strengthen the foundation to maximize AI adoption.
The program equips courses and provides 40,000 scholarships from the Digital Talent Development Program (Google Career Certificates) with Google AI Essentials course to equip the latest AI skills for the young generation of Vietnam.
Google for Startups Accelerator programs with a focus on AI, Google Startups Masterclass and the first Startup AI Space along with Google's advanced AI solutions and infrastructure for domestic startups.
Mr. Do Tien Thinh, Deputy Director of NIC, said that NIC has coordinated with Google to organize programs to support and accelerate startups, providing tens of thousands of scholarships to develop digital skills, especially in fields related to artificial intelligence, to help develop the startup ecosystem, train IT human resources and promote the application of artificial intelligence in Vietnam.
Under a shared vision and with the support of the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment, NIC and Google aim to address these challenges to promote comprehensive AI development in Vietnam.
“Creating Talent” Pillar: The Digital Talent Development Program offers 40,000 scholarships with 10 courses, including the newly launched additional course – Google AI Essentials, to equip the latest AI skills for the young generation of Vietnam, including many officials, lecturers and students from more than 80 universities and colleges across the country.
This program is an upgrade of the Digital Talent Development program launched by Google and NIC in July 2022. To date, the program has equipped 60,000 working-age people in Vietnam with a set of important digital skills.
“Building for Entrepreneurs” Pillar: Recognizing the pivotal role of local startups in driving innovation and developing solutions, Google has been committed to supporting the development of the startup ecosystem in Vietnam from the very beginning. This commitment is demonstrated through a series of ongoing initiatives such as the Google Launchpad Accelerator (2017 to 2019) and Google for Startups Accelerator (2022 to present).
In particular, Google for Startups Accelerator, we aim to support and promote Vietnamese startups in the AI era through three main programs. The first is the Google AI Startups Masterclass program, organized online for eight weeks, equipping the startup ecosystem with invaluable business knowledge.
Second, the program “Google for Startups Accelerator, Southeast Asia: Vietnam Breakthrough Innovation” aims to support potential Vietnamese AI startups to develop, commercialize and expand their AI products to new markets, through connecting businesses with leading AI experts and Google's most advanced technology.
Third, the Google Startup AI Space program is the first global initiative to support AI startups by enabling them to rapidly prototype and commercialize AI applications.
