This is the first visit by the Vietnamese Prime Minister to Kuwait in 16 years, as the two countries look forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026.

At the Bayan Palace of the Kuwaiti Royal Family, the Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah, personally greeted Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the parking lot.

Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to walk down the red carpet to the place of honor. As the two Prime Ministers reached the place of honor before the national flags of their respective countries, the national anthems of Vietnam and Kuwait were played solemnly. The welcoming ceremony concluded with each side introducing their respective attendees.

After nearly 50 years since its establishment (January 10, 1976 - January 10, 2026), Vietnam-Kuwait relations have developed well. The two countries maintain high-level visits and contacts, as well as bilateral cooperation mechanisms. Kuwait is currently Vietnam's largest trading and investment partner among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Two-way trade reached US$7.3 billion in 2024. Kuwait's largest investment project in Vietnam is its participation in the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex Project, with a total investment of US$9 billion. Currently, several cooperation agreements exist between the two countries connecting local areas, such as Ho Chi Minh City and Ahmadi Province, and Thanh Hoa Province and Al Farwaniyah Province.

During his visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will hold talks and meetings with the Emir, Prime Minister, and Crown Prince of Kuwait; visit economic facilities, work with major Kuwaiti economic corporations, and deliver a policy speech at the Kuwait Diplomatic Academy.

Through these activities, the two sides will exchange views, agree on directions and measures, and determine a framework for deeper cooperation in the future; bringing bilateral relations to a new level. This includes strengthening political trust, promoting the development of promising sectors such as oil and gas, energy, ensuring food security, Halal products, opening direct flights, promoting trade, investment, tourism, business networking, and people-to-people exchanges…

The two countries will leverage their respective strengths to enable Vietnam to become a gateway for Kuwait to expand its market into Southeast Asia and neighboring regions; and for Kuwait to help Vietnam access the Middle East and neighboring markets. Both sides will also demonstrate mutual support in international forums and multilateral mechanisms, contributing to stability, peace, cooperation, and prosperous development for both countries, the two regions, and the world.
