Kuwaiti Prime Minister presides over official welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh

On the morning of November 17, local time, at the Royal Bayan Palace in the capital of Kuwait, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah presided over the welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to Kuwait.

This is the first visit by the Prime Minister of Vietnam to Kuwait in 16 years, in the context of the two countries looking forward to activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations in 2026.

At the Bayan Palace of the Royal Family of Kuwait, Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah came to the parking lot to welcome Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to walk on the red carpet to the position of honor. When the two Prime Ministers reached the position of honor before the national flags of the two countries, the national anthems of Vietnam and Kuwait were solemnly played. The welcoming ceremony ended with the two sides introducing to each other the participants of the welcoming ceremony on each side.

After nearly 50 years of establishment (January 10, 1976 - January 10, 2026), Vietnam-Kuwait relations have developed well. The two countries maintain high-level visits and contacts and bilateral cooperation mechanisms. Kuwait is currently Vietnam's largest trade and investment partner among the countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Two-way trade turnover in 2024 reached 7.3 billion USD. Kuwait's largest investment project in Vietnam is participating in the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex Project with a total investment of 9 billion USD. Currently, there are a number of cooperation agreements between the two countries connecting local cooperation such as: Ho Chi Minh City and Ahmadi province, Thanh Hoa province and Al Farwaniyah province.

During his visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will hold talks and meetings with the King, Prime Minister, and Crown Prince of Kuwait; visit economic establishments, work with major economic groups of Kuwait, and deliver policy speeches at the Kuwait Diplomatic Academy.

Through these activities, the two sides will exchange, agree on directions, measures and determine a framework for deeper cooperation in the coming time; bringing bilateral relations to a new level. In particular, along with strengthening political trust, the two sides will promote the development of potential fields such as oil and gas, energy, ensuring food security, Halal products, opening direct flights, promoting trade cooperation, investment, tourism, connecting businesses, people-to-people exchanges, etc.

The two countries will exploit the advantages so that Vietnam can become a gateway for Kuwait to expand its market to Southeast Asia and neighboring countries; at the same time, Kuwait will help Vietnam access the Middle East and neighboring markets. The two sides also show mutual support in international forums and multilateral mechanisms, contributing to stability, peace, cooperation, and prosperous development for both countries, the two regions and the world.
