Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders sign the 'ASEAN 2045' Declaration

On the afternoon of May 26, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, Malaysia, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and other ASEAN leaders signed the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on “ASEAN 2045: Our Common Future” and adopted the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and four strategies on politics-security, economy, culture-society and connectivity.

The signing and approval of the above strategic documents is a historic milestone, opening a new development chapter of ASEAN in the journey of regional connectivity in the next two decades, affirming the commitment and determination of the countries towards a self-reliant, dynamic, creative and people-centered ASEAN.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, ASEAN 2025 Chair, reiterated the commitment of ASEAN’s founding members nearly 60 years ago to promote friendship, solidarity and cooperation, ensuring that their peoples and future generations will live in peace , freedom and prosperity. Today’s signing of the Kuala Lumpur Declaration is a re-enactment of that sacred promise, not only as a tribute to the past, but also as a living covenant with the future. The best way to predict the future is to create it. That is what ASEAN has strived to do over many decades with perseverance, cooperation and strategic vision.

The process of developing the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 was launched five years ago, stemming from Vietnam's initiative during its ASEAN Chairmanship Year 2020 on ASEAN's development orientation after 2025, bringing ASEAN confidently into a new stage of development. Over the years, all ASEAN agencies, with a comprehensive and community-wide approach, have conducted extensive consultations to learn and listen to the opinions and aspirations of all groups and genders in the region, ensuring that the new development strategy framework meets the expectations and practical benefits of the people.

The adoption of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and its four strategies on politics -security, economics, culture-society and connectivity demonstrates ASEAN’s proactive approach, not only adapting to a changing world, but also leading with solidarity, courage and a common vision. The 2045 strategic documents inherit and promote the achievements that have been made, upholding ASEAN’s core values, while opening up many opportunities and potentials for intra- and extra-bloc cooperation, enhancing ASEAN’s role, prestige and position both regionally and internationally.

On May 27, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh continued to attend activities within the framework of the 46th ASEAN Summit and related summits, including the second ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.
