Promoting cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique in the field of Mineral Resources and Energy

The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy highly appreciated Vietnam's wholehearted assistance to Mozambique during the struggle for independence, as well as valuable support in education, health care, agriculture, etc. during the period of national construction.

On April 30, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin had a working session with Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Estevão Tomás Rafael Pale. Also attending were Ms. Luísa Mahocha, National Director of Geology and Mining; Ms. Inês Chalufo, Deputy Director, Department of Planning and Cooperation; and Ms. Nilza Mendonca, advisor to the Minister.

Minister Estevão Tomás Rafael Pale warmly welcomed Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin to Mozambique to take up her duties at an important time when the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Mozambique (June 25, 1975 - June 25, 2025) and wished the Ambassador a successful term of office, contributing positively to the development of bilateral relations. The Minister respectfully sent his congratulations on the occasion of Vietnam celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 20, 2025).

The Minister highly appreciated Vietnam’s wholehearted support for Mozambique during the struggle for independence, as well as its valuable support in education, health care, agriculture , etc. during the period of national construction. Originating from the traditional brotherly solidarity and friendship, the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Mozambique has now developed into a trustworthy, practical, and effective cooperative relationship in many areas, including the fields of minerals and energy.

The Minister affirmed that Mozambique welcomes foreign enterprises, including Vietnamese enterprises, to invest and do business in Mozambique.

The Minister expressed his impression of the comprehensive economic and social development achievements of the Party, Government and people of Vietnam in recent times. Regarding energy and mineral cooperation, the Minister affirmed that Mozambique welcomes foreign enterprises, including Vietnamese enterprises, to invest and do business in Mozambique.

Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin congratulated Minister Estevão Tomás Rafael Pale on his new appointment as head of the minerals and energy sector, an important and potential sector that will be the main driving force for Mozambique's economic development in the coming time. The Ambassador also congratulated the Mozambican Government on successfully implementing the first 100-day Governance Plan, expressing her impression of the strong personnel reforms, implementing many new initiatives to promote dialogue, political stability, strengthen security, restore the economy, improve social security and people's lives, laying the foundation for a term of innovation and development, realizing the country's vision in the medium and long term.

The Ambassador was pleased to inform the Minister about the economic and political situation in Vietnam and the bright spots in the Vietnam-Mozambique bilateral relationship in recent times. The Ambassador informed that many Vietnamese enterprises are interested and wish to learn about the market and seek cooperation opportunities with Mozambican partners in many fields, especially in the fields of energy and minerals.

In September 2024, within the framework of President Filipe Nyusi's official visit to Vietnam, the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Mozambique Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding on energy and mineral resources cooperation, creating a legal framework for the two sides to promote cooperation activities in this potential field.

The Ambassador was pleased to inform the Minister about the economic and political situation of Vietnam and the bright spots in the Vietnam - Mozambique bilateral relationship in recent times.

Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin respectfully requested Minister Estevão Tomás Rafael Pale to continue supporting and promoting bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Mozambique to deepen, bringing about substantial results for the people of the two countries. Regarding the field of minerals and energy, on the basis of the signed Memorandum of Understanding, the Ambassador requested the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy of Mozambique to pay attention to supporting and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises in connecting with enterprises and localities in Mozambique to learn about the market, seek investment and business opportunities; introduce to the Embassy Mozambican enterprises with capacity, interest and desire to learn about the Vietnamese market.

At the meeting, the two sides agreed to implement many specific measures to deepen the Vietnam-Mozambique cooperation relationship in general and in the fields of energy and minerals in particular.
