Organic agricultural value chain
Mr. Nguyen Hong Lam, Chairman of Que Lam Group, said that the organic agricultural value chain is a set of linked activities from production to consumption of organic agricultural products, in which each stage has the participation of many entities such as farmers, cooperatives, enterprises, distributors, consumers and creates added value for the products.
From those ideas, in recent times, Que Lam Group has coordinated with departments and branches, especially the Department of Agriculture and Environment to build a value chain of organic agriculture and organic farming. Regarding cultivation, a value chain of organic rice, fruit trees, organic vegetables... has been built on an area of 500 hectares with hundreds of farmer households and cooperatives participating. Regarding livestock , a value chain of Que Lam organic pigs, cows, and chickens has been built, attracting over 100 farmer households and cooperatives to participate, with a total herd of over 8,000 pigs, a herd of over 150 yellow cows, and a herd of over 7,000 organic chickens. In fact, it has been confirmed that households participating in the value chain all have stable jobs, with an annual income of 200 - 500 million VND, higher than that of conventional livestock and crop farming.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lich's household in Phong Dien ward has been supported by Que Lam Group to raise organic pigs for about 6 years now with 10 sows and hundreds of pigs, with an annual output of over 12 tons of live pigs, bringing stable economic efficiency to the family. His family also built a closed bio-safety farming and breeding complex model, with organic pigs and pomelo trees, earning more than 1 billion VND/year.
According to Que Lam Group, in addition to building value chains, this unit also transfers organic farming processes and techniques and circular economy to farmers. Accordingly, with the support of localities, the unit has transferred biosafety farming techniques to hundreds of livestock and poultry farming households and transferred organic farming processes and techniques to many households and cooperatives on an area of 1,500 hectares of rice and hundreds of hectares of organic fruit trees; coordinated with authorities and organizations to organize training, process by-products, waste and organic waste into organic microbial fertilizers at home; donated more than 16,000 kg of microorganisms for farmers to process organic waste, straw and agricultural by-products and waste.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh, General Director of Que Lam Group, shared that investing in building and developing the organic and circular economy along the value chain is a difficult and unprecedented task, requiring the participation and cooperation of the entire political system with businesses. Therefore, Que Lam Group needs the support and coordination of local authorities in spreading the development of organic agriculture and circular economy in the city.
Infrastructure investment
Currently, Que Lam Group has signed cooperation agreements with dozens of provinces and cities, built hundreds of models of cooperation with localities and farmers to grow crops, raise livestock and consume all products for farmers. In Hue City alone, over the past 15 years, Que Lam has invested in an organic fertilizer factory in Huong Tra Ward, a 4F biosafety livestock complex in Phong Dien Ward, 3 companies under the group to produce and consume organic products, together with cooperatives and hundreds of farmers to cooperate in the production of organic agricultural products and biosafety livestock in localities.
The Group has also proactively coordinated with local authorities and relevant departments and branches to implement many measures, achieving positive results in the fields of infrastructure investment to serve the economy of organic agriculture, natural resources, ecology, and the Que Lam value chain. Specifically, it has invested in completing the 4F organic agriculture, natural resources, and ecological complex in Phong Dien commune, on an area of 15 hectares with a budget of 1,000 billion VND. This complex is not only for production and business but also a place for experimental scientific research, training, and fostering for managers, farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises, and is also a place for sightseeing, learning, and experience to raise awareness for farmers and consumers.
At the 4F complex, there is an organic agricultural processing and black soldier fly farming area, currently linking and raising over 100 yellow cows, 2,000 chickens, 3,000 pigs and 100 sows. In particular, the black soldier fly farming area has a capacity of over 3,000 tons of fresh pupae/year, not only providing raw materials for animal feed but also processing thousands of tons of by-products into hundreds of tons of organic microbial fertilizer, contributing to protecting the ecological environment. In addition, Que Lam has built a garden to grow fruit trees and medicinal herbs, which is also a place to preserve endemic plant varieties and provide medicinal herbs to produce health protection products...
Que Lam Group also invested in building and establishing a company to train human resources for the economic sector of organic agriculture and agro-forestry, including 3 centers in the North, Central and South regions. With the motto of "linking theory with practice" and the method of "shake hands and show work", although it has only been operating for more than 6 months, the Central Center has trained 10 courses with over 500 students who are state management officials, cooperatives and farmers. Of which, Hue City has over 200 students participating. |
