Providing information to help people be proactive in floods

Flood warnings, water levels on rivers, rainfall information, roads being cut off, deep flooding... are information that has been continuously posted on the Facebook pages of People's Committees, Public Service Centers and Security and Order of communes and wards in recent days. The forecast and warning information helps people proactively grasp information, while spreading images and efforts of forces to help people in floods.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Dung, Thuy Xuan ward said, in the days before the flood, I registered to follow most of the ward's information pages from the Thuy Xuan ward electronic information portal to the security and order pages, the Public Service Center... These pages updated quite promptly information on water level forecasts, rainfall to information on flooded roads, helping people proactively deploy response solutions and move when there is a flood.

Not only the people, but also students from universities in the area have begun to pay more attention to the official information pages of the government to grasp information during the flood. Hoang Thi Thao Nguyen, a student from the University of Economics , Hue University, who is renting a room on An Duong Vuong Street, Hue City, said that the area where she lives is quite low-lying, so these days she has been closely following the warning information of the government, including the Facebook page of the People's Committee of An Cuu Ward. Thanks to that, during the recent floods, she and her friend were able to move out of the room in time when there was information about rising water. Although the items in the room were damaged a lot, thanks to early warning information, life in the past days has not been too difficult.

Not only providing information, these Facebook pages also spread the efforts of the government, police forces... in supporting people. Along with warning information, articles and images about the efforts of the police force, militia, youth union members in supporting people to evacuate or information about emergency rescue support are also widely spread.

Not only conveying one-way information, local government social networking sites are also two-way interactive channels. Many people proactively send images and reports on flooding and landslides to the sites so that authorities can promptly come up with solutions.

Mr. Dang Huu Hai, Chairman of Thuy Xuan Ward People's Committee shared that in normal times, information on activities of the Party Committee, Ward People's Committee and socio -political organizations... is updated according to each time frame to spread information. Particularly during the recent days of floods, the amount of information was continuously updated to provide additional warning and forecast information to the people.

People can also respond and send images from the scene, helping the authorities grasp the situation more quickly and mobilize support forces in a timely manner. Wards and communes also encourage people to interact and provide real-life information from the grassroots so that the authorities can come up with effective response solutions.

In the context of digital transformation, effectively promoting the official social networking sites of communes and wards not only serves the work of natural disaster prevention, but also contributes to building a government close to the people and for the people.

The Hue City Civil Defense Command has just issued a document on rectifying the posting of information about natural disasters on mass media and social networking sites. Accordingly, some social networking sites have appeared with some untrue information and images, exaggerating the level of impact of floods and rains, causing panic, affecting the direction and operation of local authorities at all levels and the trust of the people. To ensure that information and propaganda on natural disaster prevention, control and response are accurate, timely and consistent, the Head of the City Civil Defense Command requests agencies, units and localities to direct cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers when posting news on the grassroots radio system, electronic information sites and social networking sites, to fully use the bulletins of the hydrometeorological agency and the City Civil Defense Command; absolutely do not share or disseminate fake information or unverified news; Propaganda and guidance for people to follow information from official channels of the Central and City.
