Promoting the establishment of the Mozambique-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group

National Assembly President Margarida Talapa affirmed that the establishment of the Mozambique-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group is one of her priorities in the coming time.

On May 6, at the headquarters of the National Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin visited President of the National Assembly of Mozambique Margarida Talapa.

Also attending were Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Relations of the National Assembly Oriel Chamner, representatives of the leaders of the Committees and functional agencies of the National Assembly of Mozambique, and Assistant to the President of the National Assembly.

Congratulating Ms. Margarida Talapa on being elected by the Mozambique National Assembly as Chairwoman, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin believes that with her rich experience, Ms. Margarida Talapa will continue to lead the Mozambique National Assembly to achieve many new achievements and continue to contribute to cooperation between the two countries' National Assemblies.

The Ambassador also congratulated Mozambique on its remarkable achievements in building, completing and implementing the first 100-day Governance Plan, stabilizing the domestic political situation, gradually recovering the economy , improving people's living standards, as well as issuing the Government's 5-year Program for the period 2025-2029 and the National Development Strategy for the period 2025-2044.

The above results were achieved with an important contribution from the National Assembly, under the leadership, direction and administration of President Margarida Talapa, which actively promoted its legislative role, helping the above documents to be soon passed, put into implementation, and orienting the future development of Mozambique.

Expressing her honor at being appointed as Ambassador of Vietnam to Mozambique, especially at a meaningful time when Vietnam and Mozambique are jubilantly organizing activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin pledged that in her new position, she will contribute her utmost to deepening, promoting more effectively and practically the good traditional relationship between the two countries.

Over the past half century, the relationship between the two countries has made steady progress in cooperation across all channels, including parliamentary diplomacy.

In 2022, within the framework of the official visit to Vietnam by National Assembly President Esperanca Bias, the two countries' National Assemblies signed a Memorandum of Understanding, forming a bilateral cooperation mechanism in the legislative field, which is an important mechanism for National Assembly deputies of the two countries to exchange information, share experiences in the fields of legislation and judicial reform, sustainable development, public administration, and at the same time commit to cooperate and support each other in regional and international forums such as IPU, APPF...

In order to further enhance the effectiveness of parliamentary diplomacy, Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin asked National Assembly Chairwoman Margarida Talapa to pay attention to and promote the effective implementation of the signed MOU, and promote the establishment of the Mozambique-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians Group to establish a mechanism for regular dialogue and exchange between the two countries' National Assemblies.

The Ambassador said that bilateral economic cooperation has also seen remarkable developments. Accordingly, more and more Vietnamese enterprises are interested in the Mozambique market, especially in potential and strong fields that are suitable for the resources and development level of the two countries such as telecommunications, agriculture, healthcare, mining and renewable energy, etc.

At the same time, the Ambassador hopes that in the coming time, the Mozambique National Assembly will continue to promote the completion of the legal corridor, creating a favorable environment for Vietnamese enterprises to invest and do business in Mozambique.

Although the Vietnamese community in Mozambique is relatively small in size, it has made important contributions to promoting trade, investment and people-to-people exchange. The Ambassador hopes that the Mozambique National Assembly and relevant agencies will continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Mozambique to live and work in peace, contributing to the local socio-economic development and fostering the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Congratulating Ambassador Tran Thi Thu Thin on being the first female Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique, at an important time in the relationship between the two countries, National Assembly Chairwoman Margarida Talapa expressed her belief that the Ambassador will have a successful term, contributing to further deepening the good traditional relationship and opening up many new aspects of cooperation.

National Assembly President Margarida Talapa shared about Mozambique's progress in stabilizing the domestic political situation, promoting socio-economic recovery and development, and the Government's reforms in the short, medium and long term. She said that the Mozambique National Assembly has passed the Law on Political Commitment and Comprehensive Dialogue between Parties, an important premise to create a peaceful and stable domestic environment for recovery and development.

In terms of socio-economics, within just 100 days since the new Government was established, the Government of Mozambique has developed, completed and submitted to the National Assembly for approval the Government's 5-year Program for the period 2025-2029, the National Development Strategy for the period 2025-2044; is completing and submitting to the National Assembly the Action Program to realize the goals in 2025 and the following years, focusing on reforming administrative procedures, establishing a Fund to support small and medium enterprises, supporting young people, especially young women, to start businesses, contributing to the sustainable growth of localities.

Appreciating the traditional and good comradely and brotherly relations between the two countries, National Assembly Chairwoman Margarida Talapa thanked Vietnam for its contributions and support to Mozambique during the struggle for national liberation and the current national construction and development.

The National Assembly Chairwoman believes that the relationship between the two countries will be continuously nurtured through all channels of parliamentary diplomacy, state diplomacy, party diplomacy and people-to-people diplomacy. National Assembly Chairwoman Margarida Talapa affirmed that the establishment of the Mozambique-Vietnam Parliamentary Friendship Group is one of the Chairwoman's personal priorities in the coming time.

Expressing her desire to increase delegation exchanges between the two sides, especially high-level delegations, National Assembly Chairwoman Margarida Talapa asked the Ambassador to convey her invitation to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, hoping to welcome him to officially visit Mozambique in 2025.
