Due to the impact of storm No. 3, heavy rains in the province and the discharge of floodwaters from hydroelectric reservoirs caused over 1,000 hectares of aquatic products to be flooded, overflowed, and banks to break; 214 fish cages on rivers and reservoirs were broken and lost; over 600 fish cages died scattered on the Da River and Lo River .

Implement measures to restore aquaculture production after storm No. 3

Many fish cages on Lo River, Doan Hung district were swept away, broken, and lost due to the impact of storm No. 3.

To promptly overcome the consequences and minimize damage caused by storms, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requested the People's Committees of districts, cities and towns to focus on directing and guiding people to restore aquaculture production after storms.

Accordingly, for fish cage farming on rivers and reservoirs, check the environmental factors where the cages and rafts are located to ensure they are within the allowable threshold; harvest immediately if they reach commercial size. Reinforce the mooring system, buoys, clean cages and nets to ensure safety for production activities to return to normal. Fish cages damaged by floods need to be repaired, reinforced, the farming area cleaned, the water source disinfected before stocking; farming must be carried out according to the correct process and comprehensive disease prevention measures.

For pond fish farming areas, drain the surface water to reduce the amount of rainwater in the pond; run water fans and aerators to limit water stratification for high-density intensive ponds. Check and treat environmental factors in pond water, use drugs and chemicals to disinfect and sterilize the water environment after rain and storms, ensuring that environmental factors are within allowable limits. Regularly monitor the health and increase resistance of farmed aquatic products, adjust the amount of food accordingly. Dispose of dead aquatic products according to regulations to avoid environmental pollution.

At the same time, step up propaganda to aquaculture households about Document No. 7417/NHNN-TD dated September 9, 2024 of the State Bank of Vietnam on implementing solutions to support customers to overcome the consequences caused by storm No. 3. In which, the State Bank requires credit institutions to promptly support measures and remove difficulties for customers such as restructuring debt repayment terms, considering loan interest exemption and reduction, and continuing to provide new loans to restore production and business after the storm.
