Increased flood discharge from Song Luy and Ca Giay reservoirs due to heavy rain

This morning (October 27), Binh Thuan Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited notified the People's Committees of Hai Ninh, Hong Thai, Bac Binh, Phan Ri Cua; Phan Son, Song Luy, and Luong Son communes to proactively prevent and ensure safety in the downstream area when discharging floodwater from Ca Giay Lake and increasing the discharge flow of Song Luy Lake due to heavy rain.

Accordingly, on the evening of October 26, there was rain in the Ca Giay and Song Luy reservoir basins, with some places reporting over 112 mm of rain. As of 6:00 a.m. on October 27, the water level of Ca Giay reservoir was at +75.25 m, 0.55 m higher than the normal water level, with the amount of water flowing freely through the reservoir at about 19 m3/s, while the amount of water flowing into the reservoir was about 42 m3/s.

Song Luy Reservoir

In the Song Luy lake area, combined with the water running from the Dai Ninh hydropower plant, the water flow into the lake is large, at times reaching 480 m3/s. As of 6:00 a.m. on October 27, the water level of Song Luy lake was at +129.81 m, 0.31 m higher than the normal water level, the flow regulating the water through the spillway is 162.44 m3/s, however the water level of the lake has not yet decreased because the flow into the lake is currently about 190 m3/s.

Regulating water through spillway at downstream of Ca Giay Lake

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the coming days, the province will continue to have rain. Therefore, to ensure the safety of the project and reduce flooding in the downstream area when heavy rain occurs, Binh Thuan Irrigation KTCT Company Limited will regulate water through the deep spillway of Ca Giay Lake to lower the water level in the lake. The expected regulation time is at 1:00 p.m. on October 27, regulating the discharge through the deep spillway with a flow rate of 20 m3/s. After that, depending on the water flow to the lake and the downstream situation, the flow rate will increase from 40 to 150 m3/s. At the same time, the regulated water flow through the flood spillway of Song Luy Lake will be increased to lower the water level in the lake. The expected regulation time is at 3:00 p.m. on October 27, increasing the regulated flow through the flood spillway from 200 to 350 m3/s.

Therefore, to avoid damage to people in affected areas, the Company requests the People's Committees of relevant communes to inform people along the flood drainage route of Ca Giay Lake, Luy River and river mouth of the situation; proactively deploy prevention plans and ensure safety.
