According to Dr. Du Thi Ngoc Thu, Head of the Human Organ Transplant Coordination Unit, Cho Ray Hospital quickly mobilized all personnel to carry out legal procedures and professional processes when receiving information about a brain-dead donor. Within 24 hours, the process of receiving a liver, 2 kidneys, 2 corneas, and skin for transplantation to 6 patients was completed. The last surgery ended at 8:00 p.m. on May 3.
Of these, skin was transplanted to a 62-year-old female patient (residing in Binh Dinh province) with severe burns; liver was transplanted to a 62-year-old male patient (residing in Soc Trang province) with cirrhosis due to hepatitis B; 2 corneas were transplanted to 2 female patients with corneal dystrophy; 2 kidneys were transplanted to a 51-year-old female patient (residing in Hau Giang province) and a 48-year-old male patient (residing in Dong Nai province) with end-stage chronic kidney failure. Currently, the vital signs of the organ recipients are stable and are being closely monitored.
