Enjoy the Se San River…

The journey to be immersed in beautiful nature is always a wonderful experience. I had such an interesting day when I went down the Se San 4 to enjoy the clouds, the river and the scenery here, captivating people's hearts.

Starting from Pleiku city, following Provincial Road 664 for about 70 km, we arrived at Dang village, Ia O commune, Ia Grai district. The first stop on the journey was Se San Island Tourist Area (belonging to Nhan Phu Tourism Cooperative) located in a large space with beautiful scenery. This is a new destination that opened at the end of April with an area of over 1 hectare with a variety of items: Floating restaurant serving food, entertainment, campfire, relaxation, SUP rowing and the unit is completing licensing procedures to operate river cruise services.

The location of this tourist area is about 50 meters from the area where the A Sanh Cup Dugout Canoe Racing Festival on the Po Co River and the Ia Grai District Gong Culture Festival are held in 2023, which is very convenient for tourists to have more choices in their journey to the border region to participate in the annual festival held here every November. After experiencing some interesting services here, we started to go down the Se San 4 river with an eager and excited mood because it is expected that there will be many interesting things opening up ahead.

Mr. Truong Quoc Khanh is a resident of the fishing village. His main job is to drive a boat to take tourists to visit the Se San Lake area and stop by the fishing village to learn about the lives of the islanders. Accompanying us throughout the journey on the boat, he acted as a real tour guide, sharing a lot of useful information about this area, and introducing the beauty and wonder of nature that has given and nurtured the people here. Mr. Khanh said that the price for the service of visiting the lake, fishing village, and visiting the islands is 1 million VND for a group of 10 to 15 people.

After 5 minutes of leaving the pier, we stopped at La Island. The reason it is called La Island is because on this island there are many resting huts built with water coconut leaves transported from the West (this project is invested and managed by Nhan Phu Tourism Cooperative). If there is a need, visitors can be served food and drink, enjoy the scenery around the island. Next to La Island there is a small island so people call it Doi Island.

Ms. Ha Thi Diem Nhung is drying dried rice, a specialty that tourists often buy as gifts when visiting Se San fishing village.

At the request of the group, Mr. Truong Quoc Khanh took us to visit the fishing village. From Doi Island, travel about 8 km to reach the fishing village area. The boat goes downstream, the calm, green water surface brings a cool atmosphere, from afar the typical raft houses of the river area gather into a small fishing village floating on the river, simple and rustic creating a beautiful picture and partly depicting the life of the people in the river area. Previously, this place was just a small village, up to now, Se San fishing village is gradually becoming an attractive tourist destination for travelers who love beautiful nature, opening up a promising direction for Gia Lai river tourism.

We stopped at the floating house of Ms. Ha Thi Diem Nhung (born in 1984, from An Giang ). Ms. Nhung's family has lived in the fishing village for 12 years and is one of 5 households that serve tourists when they need to eat and rest here. Chatting while her hands were quickly preparing food to serve the group of guests who had booked in advance, Ms. Nhung informed that there were about 30 households living on floating houses close together on the river surface, nestled in the lake area and surrounded by surrounding islands. The people here are mainly from the West, mostly from An Giang. Her husband, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan (born in 1982), used to make a living by fishing on the river, then selling it to people who bought it. Later, the tourism business grew more and more, the number of visitors was quite large, so he quit his job as a fisherman to focus on serving tourists with his wife.

Ms. Nhung shared that almost every day there are groups of visitors coming to visit and use the services here, and on weekends it is much more crowded. Just with the typical fish dishes here such as red-tailed catfish, perch, loach, eel... steamed, grilled, and cooked in hot pot is enough to make diners exclaim and remember the taste of the river forever. In order to serve the shopping needs of diners, the family also buys fresh anchovies to dry, making anchovy rice paper which is very popular, not only consumed in the province but also ordered in advance to export across the country.

Favored by nature, endowed with many products of the river and beautiful landscapes like water paintings, besides, the main occupation to support the residents on the island is farming, catching aquatic products and drying fish but still keeping the fresh taste to store and preserve for a long time to sell to consumers. With many prospects, exploiting the tourism potential in the Se San area. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in information, propaganda, promotion, planning for tourism development in a methodical and professional manner, thereby attracting tourists to contribute to improving the lives and increasing income for local people.

In a cheerful mood, Ms. Nhung excitedly said: “Thanks to the positive effects of the media, more and more tourists know about this area and come to visit and experience. As a result, our businesses have also sold more products. With the encouragement of the government and awareness of the importance of improving the quality of services for tourists, we all encourage each other to tidy up and clean our houses as well as ensure fresh, delicious, hygienic and affordable food to be ready to invite guests to visit our homes.”

After a journey to visit the lake, enjoy the Se San River amidst the clouds and sky, the river embracing a river, learn about the peaceful and quiet life of the residents living in the fishing village, tourists continue to experience Mo Waterfall (Ech village, Ia Khai commune), A Sanh Ferry Relic (Ia Khai commune)... will definitely bring back wonderful memories that will remain lingering and remembered forever when going far away./.
