Den Thang village currently has 174 households with 896 people, people's lives mainly depend on cultivating upland rice and corn, with low economic efficiency. Faced with this situation, the Party Committee and the authorities of Nam Xe commune have coordinated with the district's specialized departments to propagate and mobilize people to change the structure of crops and livestock in line with market demand; diversify crops, increase income on the same area. Special attention is paid to guiding people to apply scientific and technical advances in production, build new economic models, suitable to local conditions for people to learn and follow.

People of Den Thanh village take care of cassava.

Typical models include growing cassava, taro, bananas... the most recent is the mango growing model with 37 households participating. The model is implemented under the project "Restructuring the agricultural sector towards increasing added value and sustainable development" of the province; National target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, Phong Tho district has supported production according to the value chain, the mango growing area in Den Thang village is 27.8ha. Up to now, it has been certified as a safe mango product; the specialized fruit growing area (banana) has an area of 550ha... From the effectiveness of the models, the village has made important steps in implementing the shift in crop structure, improving people's lives, contributing to promoting socio-economic development. With economic development, people have the conditions to contribute money and working days to build internal roads, production roads, repair cultural houses, maintain environmental sanitation and security and order in the village, and join hands to speed up the progress of building new rural areas in the locality.

Mr. Ly A Sai - Party Cell Secretary, Head of Den Thang Village shared: “We always clearly identify the role of “locomotive” in mobilizing people to develop the economy and improve their lives. Each cadre and party member must be exemplary, match words with actions so that people will believe and follow. After many years of hard work, production and accumulation, my family now has 2.3 hectares of mango; 5.1 hectares of banana; 1.4 hectares of cassava and 1.7 hectares of intercropped tea, macadamia, 1.5 hectares of taro and many other fruit trees.

Actively transforming crop structure as well as applying science and technology to production. Up to now, my family's model annually harvests about 8 tons of mango, 150 tons of banana, 145 tons of cassava, and many other fruit trees... After deducting investment costs, the family earns a profit of over 500 million VND.

The taro growing model helps increase income for people in Den Thanh village.

Like Mr. Sai's family, Mr. Chang Van Tuan's family in the village has 2 hectares of land for production. He has boldly switched to growing mango and cassava. Thanks to that, he also has an income of hundreds of millions of dong each year from growing fruit trees and purchasing and trading seasonal agricultural products.

Thanks to boldly changing the crop structure, Den Thang village has affirmed the appropriate direction in agricultural and rural economic development. This is the premise for the locality to continue to effectively develop production towards commodities, forming a value chain for production and consumption of agricultural products, helping farmers improve their lives and increase their income.

Under the leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the communal government, especially the dynamism, creativity and exemplary role of each Party member, the people in the village have actively transformed the crop structure appropriately, contributing to improving the living standards and building a new rural area in the locality to develop more and more sustainably. Through reviewing poor and near-poor households (according to the multidimensional poverty standard for the period 2021-2025), the number of poor households and near-poor households in the village has decreased to 31%. The rate of well-off households in the village has reached over 50%.

The positive changes in Den Thang village have been contributing to changing the face of the highland countryside, affirming the effectiveness of the policy of economic restructuring associated with new rural construction. This is also a clear demonstration of the spirit of overcoming difficulties and self-reliance of ethnic minorities in the border areas of the Fatherland.
