Tien Giang: Green-skinned grapefruit prices increase, gardeners are excited

(ABO) In recent days, the price of green-skin pomelos in Tien Giang province has remained high. Specifically, grade 1 green-skin pomelos weighing 1.2 - 1.6 kg are being sought by traders at a price of about 40,000 VND/kg.

Currently, Tien Giang province has about 5,000 hectares of green-skinned grapefruit. Of which, the grapefruit area that is bearing fruit is about 4,000 hectares, with a yield of over 10 tons/ha. Green-skinned grapefruit in Tien Giang province is of high quality, bears fruit all year round, and is grown in many districts such as Chau Thanh, Cho Gao, My Tho City, etc.

Thanh Cong Dao Thanh Cooperative is currently purchasing grade 1 green-skin grapefruit at 40,000 VND/kg.

Compared to last month, the price of green-skinned grapefruit increased by more than 10 thousand VND/kg. According to gardeners, with this price, each kg of green-skinned grapefruit brings a profit of over 10 thousand VND. With the support of specialized sectors, recently, gardeners have been growing green-skinned grapefruit according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, in association with enterprises and cooperatives (HTX) to serve export.

Ms. Ho Thi Lan Anh, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors, Director of Thanh Cong Dao Thanh Cooperative, Dao Thanh Commune, My Tho City said: "Green-skinned grapefruit is very delicious, customers love and trust it. Currently, the Cooperative buys grade 1 green-skinned grapefruit at 40,000 VND/kg, for export to foreign markets. However, the amount of green-skinned grapefruit in the gardens is very small, especially grapefruit that meets export standards is even rarer."

Currently, the green-skinned grapefruit garden of Mr. Nguyen Van Quang (in Truong Xuan B hamlet, Thanh Binh commune, Cho Gao district) is bearing fruit.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quang's family (Truong Xuan B hamlet, Thanh Binh commune, Cho Gao district) grows 6 hectares of green-skinned grapefruit. Two weeks ago, he harvested nearly 10 tons of fruit. "Although grapefruit prices are high, farmers' harvest output is not much. With this price, if the yield is achieved, the gardeners will earn a good profit," said Mr. Quang.
