The Song Thu Folk Song - Bai Choi Club was officially launched on October 3 in Nam Phuoc commune, Da Nang city with the participation of more than 40 members from Nam Phuoc, Duy Nghia, Thu Bon, Duy Xuyen communes, Da Nang city.

This is a meaningful cultural activity, after implementing the two-level local government, the clubs of the previous communes no longer exist and are re-established under the new commune administration. Thereby, creating a joyful and exciting atmosphere, helping the members of the club to rekindle the bustling atmosphere of interesting and meaningful songs, imbued with traditional identity, continuing the source of folk songs and bai choi of Quang region.

The members are of different ages and occupations, but have a common starting point: passion and love for folk art - Bài Chòi, organizing regular activities to practice, sing, perform to serve the people and participate in competitions, folk singing competitions, Bài Chòi...

At the opening ceremony, the club members performed folk songs and Bai Choi songs, praising the love for the homeland of Quang Nam, the country, the humane ethics and good morals of the Vietnamese people.

A large audience and local people attended the launch, enjoyed and gave many compliments and cheers to the unique Bài Chòi performances with profound content about love for the homeland, community cohesion, conveying lessons about moral values, traditional cultural beauty of the nation...

Mr. Le Trung Thuy - who has contributed a lot to the local cultural and artistic movement, especially with the folk song and bai choi genres, shared: Song Thu Folk Song - Bai Choi Club gathers many brothers and sisters who are the core of the folk song and bai choi singing movement. Many people have participated in organizing performance programs to serve the people during holidays, New Year, and local political events.

At the club's launch, Ms. Nguyen Thi Cam Giang, Music teacher at Duy Xuyen Primary School, sang the folk song "Quang Nam nostalgia in me" by author Le Trung Thuy with a special mood.

She said, with this folk song, she was instructed by Mr. Duong Tan Sang - currently the Club's Chairman - to sing folk songs and won many prizes at local festivals, performances and art performances.

“Since then, I have loved folk songs and Bài Chòi even more and always guide students to learn to sing folk songs and Bài Chòi with melodies about love for the homeland and country. The students really enjoy singing lessons like that…” , Ms. Giang shared.

Before the merger, in the old Quang Nam province, there were 78 Bai Choi Clubs/Teams/Groups established by the Cultural Centers of districts, towns, cities, People's Committees of communes, wards, towns, and Principals of Primary and Secondary Schools.

This is a rather modest number compared to the potential and needs of social life; the core artisans currently active in Bài Chòi Clubs/teams/groups are mostly old and at high risk of being lost if their experiences and skills in practicing the heritage are not passed on.

The above model of folk song-bai choi club contributes greatly to the protection and promotion of bai choi art heritage in Da Nang city in the new context and needs attention and orientation to preserve and promote the value of bai choi heritage in a sustainable way, meeting the needs of enjoyment, living and entertainment of society, promoting local tourism development.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Sanh, Chairman of the Song Thu Folk Song - Bai Choi Club, said: The establishment of the Club not only contributes to improving the spiritual and cultural life of the people, but also adds motivation to preserve and promote the artistic values of folk songs and Bai Choi.

The members also wish and hope that the Club will develop more and more, gathering people who love folk songs and Bài Chòi, especially inspiring the young generation to create a healthy and useful playground, contributing to promoting and spreading the Bài Chòi art form that has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, while also contributing to meeting the people's need to enjoy culture and arts.

The first locality to implement a plan to support Bài Chòi

VHO - As the first province to have a resolution to create a mechanism to support and develop the intangible cultural heritage of humanity, the art of Bài Chòi, Quang Nam has had specific plans, in which special attention is paid to teaching this heritage in schools, creating motivation to preserve and spread pride in the value of Bài Chòi heritage in community life.

It is known that in early 2024, the People's Council of the former Quang Nam province approved the project to regulate the level of support for preserving and promoting the value of the intangible cultural heritage of the art of Bai Choi in Quang Nam province, for the period 2024 - 2030, implemented in 18 districts, towns and cities across the former Quang Nam province.

The subjects of application are the Clubs/Teams/Groups of Bai Choi that have been issued with a decision to establish by the competent authority, have regulations and charters, organize activities and maintain regular activities. Agencies, units, organizations and individuals related to the level of support for the preservation and promotion of the intangible cultural heritage value of Bai Choi art in Quang Nam province in the period of 2024 - 2030.
