Currently, the total livestock herd in the province is over 8 million poultry, about 750,000 pigs, over 523,000 buffaloes and cows. To proactively prevent and control epidemics, every year, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue plans for vaccination and periodic provision of chemicals for cleaning barns, with the vaccination rate for livestock and poultry reaching over 85% of the total livestock herd. At the same time, the province has built disease-safe facilities and areas, strictly managed breeding sources, feed, veterinary medicine, and promptly controlled many outbreaks.

By 2030, the province aims to have 70 concentrated livestock farms that meet disease safety criteria and form at least 10 provincial-level disease-safe zones and 2 national-level zones. Currently, the province is promoting the conversion of small-scale livestock farming to a concentrated, closed, biosafety model, linked to processing and consumption. At the same time, promoting the application of science and technology , digital transformation, traceability and disease data management in operations and management.

Delegates and experts focused on sharing technical solutions for disease prevention and control for livestock and poultry, in periodic vaccination; application of microbiological and herbal technology in disease prevention and proactive measures to ensure supply chain safety. Along with that, experts answered many questions from farmers about: How to preserve and promote the effectiveness of disease prevention vaccines; effective implementation of African swine fever vaccination; policies to support vaccination and culling of livestock when there is an epidemic; biosafety farming techniques; disease prevention during the changing seasons and solutions for circular farming models.

Through the discussion, the Department of Agriculture and Environment requested its affiliated units to promote the construction of disease-free livestock farming areas; encourage the conversion from small-scale, bio-safe livestock farms to large-scale, concentrated livestock farming; increase technology transfer and scientific and technical advances in the fields of animal feed, biological bedding and modern disease prevention and control solutions, etc.; gradually turn livestock farming into a sustainable industry, bringing stable income to farmers and cooperatives.

Previously, delegates visited the 3B fattening cow model in Chieng Mai commune and the black soldier fly farming model at the Mcro.Bio Son La organic and microbiological agricultural cooperative, Mai Son commune.
