
The Department of Agriculture and Environment issues detailed instructions on the structure of varieties and planting time frames, prioritizing native and strong crops for winter production. Directs specialized agencies to guide the production process, promptly providing measures to prevent cold and frost for crops. Encourage farmers to apply technical advances such as safe vegetable production according to VietGAP, GlobalGAP standards, organic production; use biological organic fertilizers, water-saving irrigation and agricultural film; promote production and product consumption linkages along the value chain between enterprises, cooperatives and farming households, in order to create stable output. The Department strengthens inspection and close supervision of the quality and prices of input materials, such as: seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, etc.
The goal of this year's winter crop is for the whole province to plant over 3,700 hectares of vegetables, beans, and peas of all kinds. The official planting season starts in October 2025, with localities strictly following the production schedule to ensure maximum productivity and avoid risks due to severe cold. The priority crop structure focuses on cold-resistant vegetables with stable economic value and market, such as cabbage, kohlrabi, carrots, potatoes, squash, etc. The time for planting and caring for vegetables is calculated to ensure a high-quality, abundant supply for the Lunar New Year and to complete the harvest before March 2026 in time for spring rice planting.

Chieng Mung is one of the localities with large vegetable growing areas, forming production chains and vegetable specialized areas that have been certified to meet safety standards. Typically, Son La Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative is cooperating with nearly 20 households to build a safe vegetable specialized area according to VietGAP process on a scale of more than 30 hectares, supplying over 1,000 tons of vegetables, tubers and fruits each year to the safe vegetable store chain system and wholesale markets in the Northern region. The average revenue is about 200 million VND/ha .

Mr. Hoang Van Truong, a member of Son La Clean Agricultural Products Cooperative, shared: This winter crop, my family planted all 4 hectares of cucumbers, sowing from mid-September. Currently, the cucumber garden has been harvested, the total output of the whole crop is expected to reach nearly 300 tons, the current average selling price is 15,000 VND/kg. My family has been producing vegetables according to safe processes and has achieved VietGAP certification since 2022, the products have achieved productivity and quality and are consumed at safe food stores in the province and wholesale markets in the Northern region, ensuring stable output and prices. It is expected that after the end of the cucumber crop at the end of November, my family will rotate to grow kohlrabi and cabbage to serve the consumption needs during the Lunar New Year.

In Van Son ward, farmers have proactively applied science and technology, established concentrated production models and formed large vegetable growing areas in the province. Currently, Van Son ward has over 270 hectares of various vegetables, of which 100 households have invested in net houses, automatic irrigation systems and applied safe production processes according to VietGAP standards, bringing in high income.
Mr. Kim Van Dung, Director of Dung Tien Agricultural Cooperative, Tam Ba Residential Group, Van Son Ward, shared: Starting from October, the Cooperative has implemented a plan to produce winter vegetables. With 3 hectares of greenhouses and greenhouses, the Cooperative focuses on producing high-value crops such as bell peppers, Pelermo peppers and kohlrabi. For the outdoor area, the Cooperative grows about 8 hectares of vegetables: cabbage, kohlrabi, potatoes and baby cauliflower. On average, each hectare earns about 300 million VND.
Winter vegetable production is strictly implemented according to the seasonal schedule, along with the application of science and technology and the establishment of sustainable consumption links. This initiative is a solid foundation for Son La vegetable products to have a stable market, thereby creating sustainable income and improving farmers' lives.
