Improving the quality of education in ethnic minority areas

The working delegation of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions and the Department of Education and Training inspected teaching equipment at Thuan Chau Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities.

The province currently has more than 500 schools, with over 300,000 students who are ethnic minority children. Mr. Quang Van Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, said: The Department prioritizes investment in supplementing and upgrading facilities and teaching equipment to serve digital transformation in teaching and learning for ethnic boarding schools (PTDTNT); semi-boarding schools (PTDTBT); general schools with semi-boarding students in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, areas with especially difficult socio -economic conditions, border areas; schools that do not have facilities or have to rent, borrow or have degraded facilities.

From 2023 to present, the Department of Education and Training has provided teaching equipment, including computers, minimum equipment for teaching the following subjects: History and Geography; Mathematics; Natural Sciences ; Technology; experiential activities; pictures, video clips... for grades 5, 9, 12 of 175 ethnic minority boarding schools, boarding schools, general schools with boarding students and a team of managers, teachers and students who are directly managing, teaching and learning, with a total value of over 100 billion VND.

Currently, the facilities at schools are gradually being strengthened towards solidification, modernization, and meeting standards. For preschools, 100% of groups/classes have minimum teaching equipment and supplies; 87.2% of schools have playgrounds; 55% of schools have their own playgrounds and outdoor equipment and toys installed according to regulations; 73.2% of groups/classes have enough minimum teaching equipment, toys, and supplies according to regulations. Primary and secondary schools ensure the ratio of classrooms to 1.1 or more; functional rooms, teaching equipment and supplies, playgrounds, and basic training grounds are guaranteed according to regulations. As of July 2025, the whole province has 437/596 schools meeting national standards; of which, 321 schools meet level 1 standards and 116 schools meet level 2 standards.

Thuan Chau Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities has nearly 500 boarding students. In the period of 2023-2025, from the 1719 program, the school has invested in electronic learning materials to support teachers in teaching Literature and History for grade 12; equipment for drawing on the board in teaching Math; equipment by subject: Geography, Physics, Biology, Technology, Informatics for grades 9 and 12. Exploiting, preserving and using teaching equipment, the school established a facilities committee, equipment team, assigned specific tasks to each member; developed internal rules and regulations for managing and using teaching equipment; organized training for 100% of teachers to use teaching equipment, regularly checked and observed lessons using equipment in teaching. Up to now, the school has ensured minimum teaching equipment, each class is equipped with computers, projectors, information technology applications, and effective teaching equipment is applied.

Ms. Bui Le Le Quyen, Physics teacher at Thuan Chau Secondary and High School for Ethnic Minorities, said: From the invested equipment, I apply it to teaching, such as surveying AC circuits; surveying internal energy; measuring specific heat capacity; proving Boyle's law. Students can directly operate, discuss and develop their own abilities through the use of equipment.

To ensure school facilities and equipment to meet the requirements of the 2018 general education program innovation and improve the quality of teaching and learning, the Education and Training sector continues to review the current status of facilities and equipment in ethnic minority areas to have a plan to invest in construction, repair facilities, purchase toys and equipment in a synchronous manner, suitable to practical needs and meeting the requirements of innovation. Effectively integrate national target programs; promote the socialization of education, mobilize contributions and sponsorship from organizations and individuals for education, contributing to improving the quality of education in ethnic minority areas.
