Coming to Tan Yen commune these days, we were impressed by the peaceful villages with many solidly built, spacious houses, tea hills, fruit gardens, green corn fields, stretching across the hillsides, vegetable gardens grown in greenhouses with automatic irrigation systems. Visiting the tomato growing model in greenhouses of more than 1 hectare of the family of Ms. Ha Thi Ngan, sub-area 12, is one of the typical households, daring to think, daring to do, in applying science and technology to production. Ms. Ngan shared: Seeing many people getting rich from growing plants in greenhouses, in 2002, my family invested more than 1 billion VND to build greenhouses, automatic irrigation systems for growing tomatoes and only using biological pesticides. Growing plants in greenhouses helps plants not be affected by adverse weather and pests, reduces labor costs, and increases fruit quality and yield. This year's tomato crop is expected to yield more than 100 tons of fruit, with an average selling price of 20,000 VND/kg, helping the family earn more than 2 billion VND.

Implementing the policy of converting ineffective food crop land to growing biomass corn, serving the local feed needs for livestock and providing a source of green forage for Moc Chau Milk's dairy cows, Tan Yen commune has propagated and mobilized people to plant 440 hectares of biomass corn, concentrated in Ta Phenh, Na Muong, Tam Phe, Phieng Canh, Pa Kha, Phieng Don villages, sub-zone 12, sub-zone 9; the output reached 22 tons/ha. The entire biomass corn output of the commune has a stable output, when Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company purchases 100% of the output of participating households, with the lowest price of 950 VND/kg.

Farmers in Tan Yen commune invested in building greenhouses and drip irrigation systems to grow tomatoes.

Participating in growing biomass corn from the very first days, Mr. Mui Van Hue, Tam Phe village, Tan Yen commune, said: After more than 2 years of growing, I have found that growing biomass corn saves time, care, has superior productivity, and can be cultivated in many crops a year, so the economic efficiency is higher. If before, growing corn for grain brought in about 25-30 million VND/ha, now growing biomass corn brings in about 50 million VND/ha. In addition, the buyer also brings machines to the field to harvest.

Existing in Tan Yen today, there are also green tea hills, which are raw material areas for processing factories, ensuring sustainable development. The whole commune currently has 6 OCOP tea products, including 2 4-star products, 4 3-star products of Moc Suong Tea Company Limited and Tan Lap Tea Production and Trading Cooperative. Promoting the role of transferring science and technology and linking production, enterprises and cooperatives accompany tea-growing households to improve product quality, making tea truly a spearhead crop, bringing a stable and sustainable source of income. Mr. Vi Van Tinh, a tea-growing household in Doi village, shared: His family grows 3 hectares of tea, with an output of more than 10 tons of fresh tea buds. Tan Lap Tea Production and Trading Cooperative has linked up with him to provide technical guidance on care, and committed to purchasing fresh tea buds at stable prices. Thanks to that, households in the village are confident in sticking with tea trees.

Accompanying and supporting cooperatives and households to build good agricultural production models suitable to soil conditions and production levels, Tan Yen commune focuses on directing associations and unions to coordinate with specialized agencies to organize training courses, transfer science and technology to farmers; accept entrustment and create conditions for more than 1,600 households to borrow capital to develop production and business, with a total outstanding loan of over 100 billion VND.

Mr. Ha Quang Thanh, Chairman of Tan Yen Commune People's Committee, said: Taking full advantage of the State's support, the commune has implemented projects and programs, built effective and suitable economic development models, such as growing fruit trees on sloping land; growing Queen pineapple; biomass corn and cage fish farming... Up to now, the whole commune has 1,500 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, with an output of 20,000 tons of fruit; nearly 300 hectares of tea, with an output of fresh tea buds reaching 23,000 tons; forming an area for growing corn for grain and plants as feed for dairy cows, with an area of 2,160 hectares; average income reaching 70 million VND/ha/year.

Building economic development models suitable to local conditions is the premise for Tan Yen commune to continue mobilizing capital sources to support people in expanding production scale; maintaining and replicating effective economic models, strengthening coordination in transferring science, promoting and consuming products for people. Striving by 2030, the commune will meet new rural standards, the value per hectare of cultivated land will reach 85 million VND/ha; the area of vegetables, flowers and fruits applying high technology will reach 80 ha.
