A baby elephant with its mother in Malaysia
Bernama reported on November 28 that a herd of six wild elephants attacked a car on the East-West Highway in Malaysia, leaving a family in a state of terror.
The incident happened at around 7:30 p.m. on November 26 on the highway in Perak state, when a couple was traveling with their 23-year-old son from Penang state to Terengganu state.
According to Gerik district police chief (Perak state) Zulkifli Mahmood, the 48-year-old man was driving and they encountered the herd of elephants after a curve towards Jeli district in Kelantan state.
"The driver accidentally hit the baby elephant, causing it to fall. Seeing that, other elephants rushed over and started trampling the car," he said, adding that the accident happened in drizzle and fog.
The car was damaged after the incident.

The family in the car were not injured but were left in a state of shock. The Perodua Axia, meanwhile, sustained damage to the front, rear and left side. The elephants left after the baby stood up.
Mr Zulkifli advised drivers on this highway to be cautious due to the high possibility of encountering herds of elephants.
According to Asian elephant conservation organization EleAid, Malaysia is estimated to have about 2,351 - 3,066 wild elephants, including 1,251 - 1,466 in the Malay Peninsula and 1,100 - 1,600 in Borneo.
