President-elect Donald Trump has announced his decision to appoint Mr. Brendan Carr as Chairman of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for the next term.
Mr. Brendan Carr (45 years old), is currently a commissioner of the FCC - an independent agency responsible for supervising and regulating the telecommunications and media sectors in the US. Before becoming a commissioner of the FCC, Mr. Carr served as a senior legal advisor at the agency and was a key leader under Chairman Ajit Pai from 2017 to 2021.

Carr is known for his hard-line stance on technology and telecommunications issues, including the rollout of 5G networks, broadband access, and national security challenges related to large technology platforms like TikTok. He has written to Apple and Google, asking them to ban TikTok from their platforms because it could leak sensitive user data of American users.
He has also been a vocal critic of many of the FCC’s decisions under President Joe Biden, including the failure to finalize a nearly $900 million grant for SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet project, owned by Elon Musk.
The appointment of Brendan Carr as FCC Chairman is expected to bring major changes to US telecommunications and technology policy in the coming time.
With a strong stance on free speech and the development of the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure, Mr. Carr will play a key role in overseeing and regulating large technology companies, while ensuring that FCC decisions are in the national interest and the American people.
In addition, as FCC Chairman, Mr. Brendan Carr will face many important challenges, especially in the context that the FCC is facing important decisions related to broadband policy, 5G network regulations and national security issues.
Expressing strong support, in a statement, President-elect Donald Trump affirmed that Mr. Brendan Carr is "a warrior for free speech" and has always fought against legal regulations that he believes have hindered freedom and hindered the US economy .
Previously, in addition to telecommunications policy issues, Mr. Trump criticized many large media companies such as Disney (ABC), Comcast (NBC), and Paramount Global (CBS) for actions that he considered unfair.
Trump has suggested that these companies could lose their broadcasting licenses if they continue to engage in what he sees as bias or lack of objectivity in their broadcasts. He has also sued CBS over its “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, and criticized NBC for allowing Harris to appear on “Saturday Night Live” before the election.
