According to the latest report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA), the hybrid vehicle segment, the group of gasoline-electric hybrid vehicles, had impressive growth in September 2024, reaching an increase of 125% compared to the previous month. Specifically, VAMA member companies sold 1,044 hybrid vehicles, compared to 465 vehicles in August.
Leading this segment is Toyota Innova Cross HEV with 258 vehicles sold, an increase of 322% compared to the previous month, bringing this model to the number one position in the hybrid car line in Vietnam.
Toyota Innova Cross HEV is the best-selling hybrid car in the market in September.
Not only Innova Cross, the newly launched Suzuki XL7 hybrid model also impressed when it sold 256 cars, despite having no sales in August. Toyota Corolla Cross HEV ranked third with 223 cars, up 50% compared to the previous month.
Meanwhile, Honda CR-V e also recorded strong growth with 219 vehicles, up 87%. Other models such as Toyota Yaris Cross HEV (61 vehicles), Toyota Camry HEV (14 vehicles) and Toyota Corolla Altis HEV (7 vehicles) also contributed to the positive total sales of hybrid vehicles in Vietnam in September.
September marked the first time hybrid car sales in Vietnam exceeded 1,000 units in a month, demonstrating growing consumer interest in this fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly vehicle line.
In the first 9 months of 2024, total hybrid vehicle sales of VAMA member companies reached 5,652 vehicles, an average of more than 600 vehicles sold per month.
In addition to popular car brands such as Toyota, Suzuki or Honda, luxury brands such as Lexus, Volvo, Mercedes, BMW are also gradually entering the hybrid car market, although they have not announced detailed sales figures.
