Ho Chi Minh City is speeding up the progress of a series of dredging, environmental improvement and canal infrastructure construction projects to remove obstacles.

On the afternoon of October 30, at a press conference on the socio -economic situation, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board said that dredging, environmental improvement and infrastructure improvement projects along the canals are being simultaneously accelerated, with a special focus on removing difficulties in site clearance to promptly hand over to the construction unit.

The resettlement work has been carried out with 209 households in need, currently arranged in apartment buildings 35 Ho Ngoc Lam, 2225 Pham The Hien and 481 Ba Dinh. The basic site is qualified for the contractor to start construction after completing the contractor selection.

On August 13, the Management Board held a groundbreaking ceremony for Construction Package 2 (Hiep An 2 Bridge), expected to be completed in 2026. The remaining two packages will start construction in November 2025.

Along with the Doi Canal project, the Management Board is focusing on accelerating progress at Xuyen Tam Canal - a project that people have been waiting for for many years due to prolonged pollution and flooding. The project includes three construction packages (XL-01, XL-02, XL-03), of which package XL-03 started on May 21, 2025, and is expected to be completed in November 2026.

Currently, the project has constructed 2,364/10,181 CDM piles, reaching more than 23% of the volume, the total cumulative progress is about 10%. According to the Management Board, it is expected that by the end of 2025, the construction output will reach 30%. However, regarding compensation, there are still 42 households that have not handed over the site, mainly in An Nhon and Binh Loi Trung wards.

The XL-01 and XL-02 packages have completed contractor selection, expected to start construction in November 2025 and complete the entire project in 2028.

The Tham Luong – Ben Cat – Nuoc Len canal renovation project is considered the city's strategic drainage axis.

On October 14, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee approved project adjustments to increase the connectivity of drainage and traffic infrastructure between Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh and Dong Nai provinces.

Along with the large projects, Ho Chi Minh City is also completing investment procedures for the Van Thanh canal renovation project, with a total clearance area of ​​more than 75,800 square meters, affecting about 1,077 households, of which 749 households will be cleared.

According to Resolution 345/NQ-HDND of Ho Chi Minh City dated June 28, the project is divided into two components: Dredging - infrastructure improvement and compensation - resettlement. The Management Board is adjusting the local planning of four projects, completing the feasibility study report and compensation cost estimate, expected to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee before mid-December 2025.
