On October 3, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held the opening ceremony of "Lifelong Learning Response Week 2024" with the theme: Developing a reading culture to promote lifelong learning.
At the ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that the organization of the lifelong learning week in 2024 aims to continue promoting the widespread learning movement among the people, helping to raise people's awareness, broaden their perspectives on life, expand space, time, methods and forms of learning.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuong - Deputy Minister of Education and Training - awarded the certificate of recognition for achieving the quality standards of universal primary and secondary education level 3 and achieving the standard of eliminating illiteracy level 2 for Ho Chi Minh City.
"Our city has just been honored by UNESCO as a global learning city. This is a great pride, but also a great responsibility. To be worthy of this title, every citizen needs to join hands to build a city that constantly learns and develops. The first and most important thing is to develop a reading culture and promote lifelong learning," said Ms. Thuy.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to reward outstanding individuals and collectives in the emulation movement "The whole country builds a learning society, promotes lifelong learning in the period 2023-2030".
In addition to launching the lifelong learning response week, Ms. Thuy also directed agencies, units, organizations, individuals... to step up response, propaganda as well as innovate the way to organize the program. The People's Committee of Thu Duc City and 21 districts need to actively develop and implement plans to build a learning society in the area, to help each person have a better life, and the society become more civilized and prosperous. Ms. Thuy called on each citizen to build the habit of reading books and actively study.
Also at the ceremony, leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) awarded a certificate of recognition to Ho Chi Minh City for achieving the standard of universal primary and secondary education level 3 and achieving the standard of eliminating illiteracy level 2. Mr. Pham Ngoc Thuong, Deputy Minister of MOET, said that Ho Chi Minh City has made outstanding efforts in education and training because it has to face challenges such as the largest population in the country, a large phenomenon of spontaneous migration, and some cultural institutions, although receiving attention, are still low in the general context of the country. "The city has achieved a high universalization rate, but there is still much to do to promote reading culture, build a learning society, and lifelong learning," Mr. Thuong said.
According to Mr. Thuong, the advantage that helps Ho Chi Minh City overcome challenges is the dynamism, proactive creativity, and constant innovation of the city's people, not only in the economy but also in culture and society through the ability to self-study and dare to innovate. "If you want the economy to develop, you must have knowledge, if you want knowledge, you must have books, reading methods and constantly study regularly" - Mr. Thuong emphasized.
