Teaching poor students, giving away 40,000 meals
On December 24, the People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City organized the commendation and awarding of the title "Silent but Noble Example" for the 6th time - 2024, to 17 collectives and 23 individuals.
Attending the event were Member of the Party Central Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai; Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Phuoc Loc and leaders of the city.
Mr. Le Anh Tuan - "Charity Rice" group of artists, officials, and workers of the Bong Sen Folk Music and Dance Theater, shared: "The group was established in 2019, distributing about 300 free lunch boxes to the poor every week. When the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, the group built a free rice kitchen for all people in need, after 5 years of establishment, the group has distributed more than 40,000 lunch boxes".
Another group is the “Vinh Son Cho Quan Universal Education ” class, which, in the 10 years since its establishment, has taught thousands of children who do not have the opportunity to go to school, opening doors to a hopeful future for them.
Each year, the class teaches about 150 students, currently there are 6 classes (from grade 1 to grade 5), the teaching content is close to the program of the Ministry of Education and Training , the class is taught by 6 volunteer teachers, not receiving salary. At the class "Vinh Son Cho Quan Universal Education", the students are taught not only the opportunity to change their lives but also to inspire the next generations: with faith and effort, everything can become a reality...

Building Ho Chi Minh City into a locomotive of humanity
For the 23 individuals honored, there are many professions. Notably, Ms. Le Thi Thuy Van (born in 1994, teacher at Tre Viet Primary School; Head of the volunteer group "Green Dreams", District 12), grew up in difficult circumstances and received help from the community, Ms. Van understands the value of sharing and giving.
In 2022, Ms. Van founded the group "Green Dreams", she always wondered how to bring joy and practical things to children and the disadvantaged. Therefore, in January 2024, the group launched the program "Spring for Children", giving Tet gifts to 150 households in Tan Thanh commune, Tan Chau district, Tay Ninh province. Or the program "Bringing water to the village", organized in May 2024, in Dinh Trung commune, Binh Dai district, Ben Tre province, with 600 bottles of water given to people in drought and salinity areas.
In addition, Ms. Van also participated in a cross-country run to raise funds for heart surgeries for children. Most recently, from May 30 to July 7, she participated in a run from Independence Palace to Uncle Ho's Mausoleum. The program raised more than 101 million VND, supporting the cost of heart surgeries for 6 poor children at Children's Hospital 1.
At the commendation ceremony, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai, on behalf of the city's leaders, respectfully thanked the collectives and individuals commended in 2024, as well as the collectives and individuals who are silently contributing to the city.
Ho Chi Minh City is the economic locomotive of the whole country, a city of dynamism, creativity, and humanity, so why don't we build the city to become a locomotive of humanity? From the locomotive of humanity, the city has been and will be giving rise to many movements, actions, and acts of humanity, noble, with high spreading power. These actions and acts are sometimes very simple, very ordinary, but will make life better.
“I think there are many other silent groups and individuals that we have not had time to commend in the past; there are also many groups and individuals who do not want to be commended. Perhaps while we are sitting at the ceremony, outside there are many groups and individuals silently doing meaningful and humane things for the city, for a better life. In 2025, the city will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. The city hopes that organizations, units, philanthropists, and each citizen, with their position, role, and conditions, will do the most meaningful thing possible. We do not only build tall buildings and large projects, but together we will eliminate slums, black spots in the environment, traffic, etc. Let's work together to warm up those who are still in difficult circumstances in life, to make this life more meaningful, to make our beloved city more beautiful,” Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai suggested.
