Implementing the coordination program between the Ministry of Education and Training and the Tobacco Harm Prevention Fund (Ministry of Health), the Education and Times Newspaper has launched the Tobacco Harm Prevention Lesson Design Competition in 2025. The competition has become a typical highlight, a professional playground with a wide-reaching influence, combining pedagogy, digital technology and educational communication.

More than 6,800 entries from all over the country

Reporting the contest's conclusion, journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam - Editor-in-Chief of Education and Times Newspaper, Head of the contest's organizing committee, said that after more than 3 months of launching, the Organizing Committee has received more than 6,800 entries from teachers from all over the country. Each lecture is a message about the love of the profession, love of students and the sense of social responsibility of the teacher. It is creativity in content, innovation in methods, and above all, love, the aspiration to build a "smoke-free school" in every lesson, every activity hour.

Journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam also said that the contest lectures strongly applied digital technology, combining visual images, illustrative videos, simulated situations, and real-life stories, helping students to easily absorb and empathize.

"Not only warning about harmful effects, many lectures also promote critical thinking, self-protection skills and a positive lifestyle, helping students love themselves, respect others and say "no" to cigarettes...", journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam said.

The results of this year’s competition show a colorful picture of creativity and dedication in the education sector. The jury worked impartially and objectively to select the best lectures, demonstrating high pedagogical, aesthetic and educational values.

The organizing committee has structured the awards for two levels (middle school and high school). In total, 38 individuals and 10 groups were honored as teachers who have turned knowledge into action, and lectures into living messages.

The award structure includes: First Prize: 1 collective prize, 1 individual prize; Second Prize: 2 collective prizes, 3 individual prizes; Third Prize: 2 collective prizes, 5 individual prizes and Encouragement Prize: 10 individual prizes.

The head of the competition organizing committee assessed that many outstanding works showed new thinking, integrated knowledge of biology, chemistry, life skills; exploited the psychology of 'teenagers'; or used the form of dramatization, group interaction... All of them showed the strong transformation of Vietnamese education in the era of technology and integration. The valuable thing is that the competition is not only limited to the professional scope, but has truly become an educational movement spreading nationwide. Teachers do not only compete to win prizes, but also compete to learn, share and spread the sense of responsibility of the teaching profession.

The Organizing Committee has been converting excellent lectures into electronic documents, posting them on the media platforms of Education Newspaper and Times to serve the entire education sector. This is a step to expand the value of the competition beyond the auditorium, bringing creative results to classrooms, remote and isolated areas.

"Each lecture today will become a seed for a long-term journey of education on tobacco, e-cigarettes, and heated tobacco products prevention. It is the teachers who sow, care for, and nurture those green shoots...", journalist Trieu Ngoc Lam believes.

The communication has far-reaching implications.

Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An, Chairman of the Vietnam Education Trade Union, Deputy Head of the Final Jury, said that to be able to select the best lecture from more than 6,000 lectures was an extremely difficult effort. We are trying to improve public health, starting with improving school health. We are currently facing the risks of health destruction that are silently creeping in. Meanwhile, in reality, cigarettes not only contain chemicals, but also addictive substances that creep in and destroy health.

"It's time to sound the alarm about the dangers of addictive substances that are destroying health. The contest is not just a contest, but also a very meaningful communication to groups, especially students," said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An said that the teachers were very perceptive in conveying difficult content. He expressed his understanding when the teachers created lectures that were not in the textbooks. Many new teaching methods and techniques, suitable for students, were shown in the lesson design.

"In many ways, teachers have helped students proactively avoid tobacco. Some lessons clearly explain the mechanism, harmful effects, and illustrate specific addictive substances. In the context of the danger surrounding addictive substances today, which are very difficult to identify, we believe that the teachers' lesson designs will be well conveyed in class," said Mr. Nguyen Ngoc An.
