Paying tribute to Mr. Tu Tinh - the man who hid revolutionary cadres

(ABO) On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on April 17, the Veterans Association of Thanh Phu commune (Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province) built two new tombs of people who made great contributions to the local revolutionary movement.

Over the course of the campaign, members, veterans and sponsors contributed more than 15 million VND to rebuild the tomb of Mr. Tu Tinh and his mother. The Veterans Association of Thanh Phu commune has built these two new tombs. Mr. Tu Tinh is a meritorious person, lending his house to the cadres and guarding the cadres during important meetings to open the conference to establish the Provincial Military Committee.

Chairman of the Thanh Phu Commune Veterans Association Le Xuyen Tam said that in the process of searching for documents on the history of the Thanh Phu Commune Party Committee, he learned that Mr. Nguyen Van Tiet (born in 1944), who lived nearby and had contact with Mr. Tu Tinh, recounted what he heard and knew about Mr. Tu Tinh's family, which had once sheltered cadres. But he did not expect that this was also the place where the leaders of the Provincial Party Committee met to discuss the establishment of the Provincial Military Committee. Mr. Tu Tinh lent his house to the cadres and guarded them while they held important meetings. Currently, Mr. Tu Tinh's house no longer exists, he has no land or descendants, so Mr. Tiet and his family have been taking care of Mr. Tu Tinh's grave and his mother's grave in the garden in Mieu Hoi Hamlet (Thanh Phu Commune) that has been the family's grave ever since.

It is known that Mr. Tu Tinh lent his house and guarded the road from early August 1940 until the day before the Southern Uprising. The My Tho Provincial Party Committee held three conferences (early August, October and November) at his house to discuss specific measures for preparing for the uprising. This was a correct policy, proactive, creative, and with a strategic vision of the Provincial Party Committee. After being established, the Provincial Military Committee organized and built a force including thousands of self-defense forces, local guerrillas and concentrated guerrillas, with their own military bases, which were tightly organized and commanded.

During the Southern Uprising, this force was the core force for the masses to rise up and seize power. During the time he lent his house and guarded the road, Mr. Tu Tinh was questioned and brutally beaten by French soldiers but he refused to confess. The My Tho Provincial Party Committee held a conference to establish the Provincial Military Committee consisting of 7 comrades, with comrade Nguyen Huu Thuong as its head. August 12, 1940 became the Traditional Day of the Tien Giang Armed Forces.
