(BDO) On June 13, Binh Duong Provincial Police announced that they had successfully launched a campaign to eradicate an online soccer betting ring with transactions worth tens of billions of dong.
Previously, the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Binh Duong Provincial Police in coordination with the Ministry of Public Security's Professional Department discovered that Do Van Tam (born in 1988, registered residence in My Phuoc Ward, Ben Cat Town) and his accomplices were organizing a large-scale illegal football betting ring on the internet in Binh Duong Province.
Objects and evidence of the case
As the ringleader, Tam collaborated with Le Minh Tri (born in 1992, from Ben Tre province) and several other individuals to organize football betting transactions assigned by the bookmaker with a limit of 150,000 USD in virtual money to gamble per day. To attract players and deceive the authorities, Tam and his accomplices opened 17 football betting accounts. At the time of discovery and arrest, the police determined that the total amount of money the subjects used for online football betting transactions was about 63 billion VND.
Through the investigation, the subjects admitted to illegal football betting. The task force is continuing to work with related subjects and is freezing over 40 bank accounts that the subjects used for football betting purposes.
The incident is under further investigation.
