(Dan Tri Newspaper) - On the morning of March 14, the Ministry of Interior submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requesting the awarding of the "Homeland Recognition" certificate to Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat, a riot police officer of the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police.
Specifically, in submission No. 320/TTr-BNV dated March 14, 2025, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Ba Hoan clearly stated the basis for submitting to the Prime Minister the awarding of the "Homeland Recognition" certificate to individuals who meet the criteria for recognition as martyrs. This is based on the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for People with Meritorious Contributions to the Revolution and Government Decree 113/2021/ND-CP detailing and implementing the Ordinance.
Accordingly, the leaders of the Ministry of Interior proposed awarding the "Homeland Recognition" certificate to Sergeant Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat, an officer of the Mobile Police Unit, Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police.

According to a report from the Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police, at 7:35 AM on March 3rd, a task force from Ward 7 Police Station, Vung Tau City, went to the house of Duong Huu Tri (also known as Ty Heo, 38 years old, residing in Ward 7, Vung Tau City) to invite him to the station for a drug test.
However, Tri refused to comply and aggressively chased after and slashed at a Ward 7 officer with a knife, tearing his shirt. Afterwards, Tri returned and set the task force's vehicle on fire before going home.
Upon receiving the report, the regional criminal investigation team in Vung Tau City, comprising multiple officers, arrived at the house and attempted to persuade Tri, but he refused to comply. The suspect continued to barricade himself inside the house, cursing and threatening to use weapons to attack the police force.
Then, Tri stood on the upper floor and threw boiling water, burning a local police officer from Ward 7. The task force, including officer Nguyen Ngoc Minh Nhat, moved in to subdue the suspect.
While apprehending and subduing Tri, Officer Nhat was stabbed in the right side of his chest by the suspect. The task force immediately took him to Vung Tau Hospital for emergency treatment. However, at approximately 1:30 PM that same day, Officer Nhat passed away.
