In 2023, a new production model emerged in Phung Hiep district, including a mulberry cultivation model for fruit production that yielded high efficiency. A prime example is the mulberry cultivation model for consumption by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Mo, in Hamlet 3, Thanh Hoa commune, Phung Hiep district ( Hau Giang province).
2021 was a particularly difficult year for Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Mo, facing numerous economic challenges and her child suffering from a serious illness.
Faced with this situation, Mrs. Mo couldn't think of a way to earn money, so she had no choice but to work odd jobs and borrow money to pay for her child's treatment and family expenses.
While treating my child, the doctor advised us to give him mulberries to supplement his diet.
From then on, Ms. Mo became interested in growing edible mulberry trees. Later, realizing that edible mulberries are easy to grow, resistant to pests and diseases, have a high price, and provide a stable income, Ms. Mo decided to plant 1,000 square meters to gain experience, understand market information, and earn an income, although it wasn't much.

Mulberries grown in the garden of Mrs. Mo, a mulberry farmer in Thanh Hoa commune, Phung Hiep district (Hau Giang province).
In 2022, Ms. Mo increased the area to 10,000 square meters to increase her family's income and stabilize her life, after two years of growing mulberry trees that yielded high income.
In 2023, Ms. Mo harvested two crops of mulberry trees. One crop yielded over 5,000 kg of mulberry leaves, which she sold at 50,000 VND/kg at the farm gate, generating an income of over 500,000,000 VND. After deducting expenses, her family earned a profit of over 300,000,000 VND.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Mo said: "The mulberry tree is easy to grow, has few pests and diseases, yields high productivity, traders come directly to the garden to buy it, and the price is high and always stable. With an area of 10,000 square meters in 2024, it will bring higher income to the family compared to 2023."
This is a new model that is easy to grow, has a short growing time, is resistant to pests and diseases, has low costs, fetches high and stable prices, and traders come to the farm to buy the produce.
In the future, the model of growing mulberry trees for fruit production needs to be expanded to help people in and outside the locality increase their income with this new crop.
