On the afternoon of February 28th, the Air Defense - Air Force Command announced that five helicopters, including Mi-8 and Mi-17 models, belonging to the 916th Air Regiment, 371st Division, had flown from their base in Hoa Lac ( Hanoi ) to Bien Hoa Airport (Dong Nai) for flight training in preparation for the parade.
Earlier that same day, Su-30Mk2 fighter jets from the 927th Air Regiment also took off heading south. The training process began in March.
According to the plan, five helicopters from the 916th Air Regiment will land at four locations before completing their journey at Bien Hoa Airport. The pilots will participate in training flights carrying the national flag with the 917th and 930th Helicopter Regiments before performing at the parade over Ho Chi Minh City. The helicopter squadron's mission is to fly the national flag over the Independence Palace.
The 916th Helicopter Air Regiment has many years of experience in flag-raising missions, participating in events such as the International Defence Exhibition and the 70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
Besides Mi-8 and Mi-17 helicopters, the Air Defense and Air Force Command also deployed Su-30Mk2 fighter jets and Yak-130 training aircraft, totaling 27 aircraft, for this parade. This marks the first time such a large number of combat aircraft have performed a flyover in the skies of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the plan, the parade on the morning of April 30, 2025, commemorating the 50th anniversary of national reunification, will include a 21-gun salute to the Vietnamese national anthem, an air salute, a parade of floats displaying the national emblem - blocks of Party flags and national flags - and a float carrying a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh; parades of military and militia units; parades of police units; and parades of mass groups.
