Is the crackdown on counterfeit goods falling into a state of 'kidnapping and abandoning the disc' after peak periods?

Participating in the discussion on the results of monitoring the settlement of voters' petitions sent to the 8th Session of the 15th National Assembly, delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga, Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hai Duong province, said that recently, the issue of counterfeit and poor quality goods has become a special concern of voters nationwide. A series of cases have been discovered on a large scale, with increasing severity, showing that this problem is no longer an isolated phenomenon but is becoming a serious challenge in economic and social life.

The delegate said that the consequences of this problem are really serious. First of all, it directly violates the legitimate rights of consumers when poor quality goods are mixed in the market a lot. This problem also seriously reduces the reputation of Vietnamese goods in the international market, directly affecting the country's position in global trade.

And more seriously, the problem of counterfeit goods also erodes people's trust, breaks ethical standards in business and in social life. "When counterfeiting is widespread, when deception is sometimes tolerated, it will spread as a way of life, forming habits of snatching, lying, indifference, and disregarding all rules to make a profit. That is a long-term danger, with extremely dangerous impacts on social ethics, cultural lifestyles and affects all aspects of the country's development. This needs to be clearly identified to have a resolute solution," said the Russian delegate.

According to the delegate, in recent times, there has been a drastic intervention by the authorities. Many serious cases of counterfeit and poor quality goods have been discovered and strictly handled. Voters welcome, acknowledge and agree with that result. However, voters and people still have many concerns and worries.

That is the role and responsibility of the enforcement team in the inspection and supervision work for a long time, how to make this phenomenon widespread and common today. And will the crackdown on counterfeit and poor quality goods fall into a state of "kidnapping and abandoning the plate" when the peak campaigns end, will the situation of counterfeit production and trade continue as before the peak campaigns? Will there still be indifference, even tolerance and cover-up among the enforcement force as in some cases that have been discovered recently?

Delegate Nguyen Thi Viet Nga said that voters highly appreciated the Government's determination and timeliness in submitting to the National Assembly for consideration and approval of many laws related to strict management of product and goods quality, related to the responsibility of organizations and individuals advertising products and goods as well as tightening sanctions to handle violations.

At the same time, voters nationwide want stronger, longer-term solutions in terms of implementation. It is necessary to improve public ethics and promote the responsibility of the direct enforcement team so that all issued regulations are strictly implemented in life. Resolutely do not let the problem of counterfeit goods recur after each peak campaign. The crackdown on counterfeit goods must be carried out regularly, continuously, and actively nationwide.

The Russian delegate also said that preventing and combating counterfeit, fake and poor quality goods is not only the task of the industry and trade sector, the police sector or the market management force, but also requires close coordination of the entire political system and active participation of the people. More importantly, it is also a matter of public ethics and business ethics, so that every officer performing his duties, every producer and every enterprise is imbued with a sense of responsibility, honor and self-respect in work.

"Voters nationwide expect the National Assembly, in its role as the highest representative body of the people, to further strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of supervision in this field. It is necessary to regularly urge, evaluate and supervise the implementation of policies so that the problem of counterfeit, pirated and poor quality goods is no longer a burning issue in social life, to maintain trust and protect the rights of consumers, so that the reputation of Vietnamese goods is increasingly enhanced in the international market," the Deputy Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Hai Duong province suggested.
