On April 28, Mexico's largest left-wing daily newspaper La Jornada published an article titled " 50 years after Vietnam's military victory over Washington " in which it published images and praised the historic victory on April 30, 1975 that helped the country unify, regain peace, and develop its economy to become the "new Asian tiger" it is today.
The article highlights the victory after 55 days and nights of the Liberation of the South or the Ho Chi Minh Campaign that ended the most brutal war of modern times, marking a historic turning point for our nation, army and people after 30 years of heroic resistance to gain independence and national liberation.
La Jornada mentions the consequences of war, from the bombings of B-52 aircraft to the use of herbicides including Agent Orange/dioxin by the US military in many places in Vietnam, causing severe environmental pollution and millions of people being exposed and victims of countless tragedies suffering both physically and mentally from the after-effects of dioxin.
Although the war is over, the pain still affects many generations and no less than half a million tons of bombs and ammunition remain after the war in Vietnam, the clearest proof of the devastating consequences that the war left behind.
However, above all, after the historic victory and the implementation of the Renovation process, today's Vietnam has developed and realized the goal of "rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization."
The article states that the victory of Vietnam's resistance war against American imperialism to save the country is considered an international event of great importance with profound contemporary significance for independence and progress towards socialism.
La Jornada describes that these days, the Vietnamese people are excitedly celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day with many activities, including a large military-civilian parade, exhibitions and art programs mainly concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City and the capital Hanoi. The above events have attracted millions of participants, especially young people.
Notably, La Jornada highlighted that these commemorative activities chose the language of peace, expressing the joy and happy moments of people living in peace and national independence./.
