On August 27th, at the "Understanding Liver Cancer Correctly" program organized by K Hospital, Dr. Lai Phu Thai Son, Deputy Head of the Tan Trieu Outpatient Department (K Hospital), stated that liver cancer has now surpassed lung cancer and is the leading cancer in Vietnam with nearly 26,500 cases per year, accounting for 14.5% of all cancer cases.
Liver cancer is also the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, with over 25,200 cases per year, accounting for 21% of all cancer deaths. Notably, 77% of liver cancer cases are in men. Meanwhile, the symptoms of liver cancer are often atypical and easily overlooked, so most patients only seek examination, diagnosis, and treatment when the disease is already in a late stage, making treatment difficult and costly.
To prevent and detect liver cancer early, health experts recommend that people have regular health checkups and liver ultrasounds every six months, especially those with high risk factors such as cirrhosis, chronic hepatitis due to alcohol, and hepatitis B and C viruses.
