This is one of the activities celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country, the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Nga Bay town - now Nga Bay city, the 10th anniversary of its status as a type III urban area, and the 5th anniversary of the establishment of Nga Bay city, along with the 110th anniversary of the formation of the Nga Bay - Phung Hiep region.

Mr. Le Hoang Xuyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Nga Bay City, Hau Giang Province, stated that Nga Bay City holds a strategic position within Hau Giang Province and the region, connecting road transport with other provinces and cities in the Western region. As a convergence point for seven major canals, Nga Bay has become an important waterway transportation hub in the Mekong Delta.

The event was organized on a large scale to promote the image of Nga Bay's homeland and people, as well as to create a highlight to attract tourists, promote tourism, and boost investment for socio-economic development in the locality.

"With the goal of becoming a commercial, service, and tourism hub of the province by 2030, Nga Bay focuses on economic development, promoting administrative reform, building a service-oriented government, and digital transformation. Nga Bay City is determined to become a modern, smart city, a safe, friendly destination, an attractive investment opportunity, and a potential destination for domestic and international tourists," Mr. Xuyen emphasized.

This could also be considered an opportunity for those who wish to learn more about the once-famous Nga Bay river capital, with its renowned floating market – considered the "heart of the river region".

Here, people from Ca Mau, Kien Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, and other provinces anchor and gather their boats to trade fruits from their orchards and local produce.

Besides trading goods, the locals also showcase their talents in folk singing, cải lương (Vietnamese traditional opera), and đờn ca tài tử (traditional Southern Vietnamese music), creating a vibrant picture of community cultural life reminiscent of the riverine era.

Perhaps the image of the young man from Ca Mau selling mats and falling in love with a girl from Nga Bay served as the main inspiration for the late playwright Vien Chau's famous vong co song "The Mat Seller's Love ," and from then on, the place name Nga Bay seemed to be mentioned more often.

The 2nd Nga Bay City Tourism and Investment Promotion Week 2025 will take place over three days (from April 25th to 27th), featuring a variety of rich and attractive activities such as the "Flavors of the Riverine Region" culinary competition; the traditional rowing boat race; the Nga Bay Tourism - Cultural Convergence of Seven Rivers famtrip; the seminar "Digital Transformation and Smart City Development - An Inevitable Trend for Nga Bay's Sustainable Development"; and a career fair, including admissions counseling, job placement, and overseas employment opportunities.
