Can Tho A 57-year-old man had recurring coughs and wheezing, thinking he had Covid-19 so he bought medicine to take himself, his condition got worse, the doctor discovered a pig bone stuck in his bronchus.
On May 23, a representative of Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital said the patient was admitted to the hospital with a persistent cough and phlegm, recurrent wheezing, and increasing difficulty breathing with exertion.
A year ago, the man choked on pork bone soup and developed the above symptoms. Thinking it was Covid-19, he bought medicine at home and did not go to the doctor. Now his condition has worsened and he has gone to the hospital.
After examination, the doctor diagnosed the patient with a foreign body in the airway, high blood pressure, and arrhythmia. The radiopaque foreign body measuring 20x14 mm in size was in the lower lobe bronchus of the right lung, which was considered a difficult case due to the foreign body being in place for a long time, the surrounding granulation tissue growing, and the patient having cardiovascular disease.
The endoscopy lasted about 45 minutes, and the foreign object, a pig bone, was removed from the patient's bronchus. After a day of treatment, he was alert, no longer had difficulty breathing or wheezing, ate normally, and had stable vital signs. The man has now been discharged from the hospital.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Thao, Deputy Head of the General Department, said that foreign bodies in the airways are cases where foreign objects enter the airways, which can lead to serious complications, even death, if not treated promptly.
To avoid foreign objects, doctors recommend that people limit loud laughter and joking while eating and drinking; pay attention to dishes that are prepared and use bones such as soups and broths, especially for the elderly and children.
