Vietnam women's team lineup
In the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Vietnamese women's team (ranked 34th in the world) was in the same group with Japan (ranked 8th in the world), host Uzbekistan (ranked 50th in the world) and India (ranked 61st in the world). With the goal of winning second place in the group and getting a ticket to the next qualifying round, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team had to defeat the Uzbekistan women's team on the opening day. In the most recent meeting between the two teams in the second qualifying round of the 2024 Paris Olympics, also in Uzbekistan, the Vietnamese women's team defeated the host girls with a score of 2-1.
In the first few minutes, the two teams played a "tit for tat" game. In the 11th minute, the home team attacked the goal but could not get past the Vietnamese defense. In response, in the 14th and 15th minutes, Huynh Nhu continuously broke through and approached the opponent's goal, but the Uzbekistan goalkeeper rushed out to catch the ball right in front of the Vietnamese women's team captain's shoes. Half of the first half passed with the initiative belonging to the Vietnamese women's team, however, there was no clear scoring opportunity.
In the 30th minute, Diyorakhon lifted the ball past goalkeeper Kim Thanh to give Uzbekistan the lead after a lapse in the Vietnamese women's defense. Coach Mai Duc Chung then had to send Van Su onto the field to replace Tran Thi Thu Thao. This midfielder was injured after a previous dispute. Despite the active attack, no more goals were scored by either team, the first half ended with a score of 1-0 in favor of the home team Uzbekistan.
The red shirt players played very hard in the second half.
In the second half, Thanh Nha and My Anh entered the field to replace Tuyet Dung and Hoang Thi Loan. In the 61st minute, the Vietnamese women's team was awarded a free kick in the 16m50 area. Huynh Nhu took a direct shot but the ball went wide. In the following minutes, the Vietnamese women's team continuously launched attacks but Thanh Nha, Hai Yen, and Huynh Nhu all missed their chances. The match ended with a score of 1-0.
In the next match, coach Mai Duc Chung and his team will meet the Indian women's team at 5:00 p.m. (Vietnam time) on October 29 at Lokomotiv Stadium (Tashkent).
