E-commerce Street: New Opportunities in Business

To support businesses and business establishments to maximize the advantages and potential of the digital economy, the Department of Industry and Trade has consulted with the province to build an e-commerce street model in Thai Nguyen City. This opens up many new opportunities for businesses on e-commerce platforms, enhancing customer experience by combining online and offline shopping; at the same time promoting cashless payments and optimizing logistics.

Change the way of doing business

Having been in the clothing business for 3 years at 25 Luong Ngoc Quyen Street, Hoang Van Thu Ward ( Thai Nguyen City), Ms. Doan Thi Thuy Duong, owner of the shop "Thuy Duong - office fashion", was very excited when the working group of the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the Ward People's Committee to conduct a survey to build an e-commerce street.

Ms. Doan Thi Thuy Duong said: Currently, selling goods according to the traditional model is very slow. Therefore, I myself have actively made video clips introducing many products on the Facebook page to increase interaction and improve business efficiency. When the Department of Industry and Trade and the Ward People's Committee surveyed to build an e-commerce street, I registered to participate in the program because I believed it would open up new opportunities in business. I hope the Department of Industry and Trade will quickly organize training so that registered households can grasp more knowledge and skills about e-commerce, as well as build booths on reputable e-commerce platforms...

Not only Ms. Doan Thi Thuy Duong, through a survey of 114 business establishments on Luong Ngoc Quyen Street (Hoang Van Thu Ward), there were 102 establishments responding and agreeing to participate in the program, 12 establishments did not participate, mainly small-scale businesses.

Mr. Duong Khanh Trung, Vice Chairman of Hoang Van Thu Ward People's Committee, emphasized: In the ward, there are 3 very bustling business routes: Hoang Van Thu, Luong Ngoc Quyen and Bac Kan. Selling on e-commerce platforms, households are open and transparent about product information and prices, so it will bring high efficiency when combined with traditional business. Customers will have more convenience in choosing products, ensuring quality, price, and protecting consumer rights.

According to statistics of Hoang Van Thu ward, there are over 720 business households in the ward, contributing to the local budget 9.3/28 billion VND of the total budget revenue of the ward in 2024.

In the first 5 months of 2025, the budget revenue from business households was about 5/11.2 billion VND of the total revenue. The above results show that the contribution of business households accounts for nearly 1/3 of the total revenue in the locality. If households participate in e-commerce platforms, business efficiency will grow strongly in the coming time.

In addition to Hoang Van Thu ward, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the People's Committee of Quang Trung ward to survey 85 businesses on Luong Ngoc Quyen street in the ward, of which 60 businesses registered to open booths and do business on e-commerce floors and platforms; 18 businesses requested to continue researching and will respond in the near future, only 7 small businesses did not participate.

Improve economic efficiency

The development of commercial and service business on the streets of Thai Nguyen province is mainly concentrated on the central streets in Thai Nguyen City, Song Cong City, Pho Yen City and the centers of district towns.

The business items are quite diverse and rich but mostly mixed. Specialized streets have been formed such as: Fashion specialized streets (Luong Ngoc Quyen, Hoang Van Thu), food service specialized streets (Bac Son, Viet Bac, Minh Cau), automobile, motorbike, and scooter specialized streets (Cach Mang Thang Tam street, Ba Mai warehouse section - train track), entertainment areas, walking streets in the heart of Danko Urban Area...

According to statistics from the Department of Industry and Trade, in terms of retail market share structure, the individual economy is still dominant and accounts for 60% of the retail market; the rest are non-state enterprises accounting for 35% and state enterprises accounting for 5%. The retail market share structure has not significantly shifted from the individual retail sector to the enterprise sector.

In addition to retail activities, the total wholesale turnover reached 95 trillion VND/year, nearly 3 times the retail turnover; the average annual growth rate was 10%/year. This activity contributed greatly to the scale of the local trade sector, in which the wholesale turnover of enterprises accounted for 90% of the total wholesale turnover of the trade sector.

The above statistics show that the Provincial People's Committee's direction to build an e-commerce street model is a solution to change business methods and improve efficiency for the individual economic sector.

The Department of Industry and Trade coordinated with the People's Committee of Hoang Van Thu Ward (Thai Nguyen City) to conduct a survey at establishments and shops on Hoang Van Thu Street and Luong Ngoc Quyen Street to build an e-commerce street.

With the active advice of the Department of Industry and Trade, on May 15, 2025, the Provincial People's Committee signed and issued Plan No. 121/KH-UBND on the implementation of the e-commerce street model in Thai Nguyen City. This is a pilot model to create conditions for businesses and business establishments to access and do business on e-commerce platforms, creating a premise for replication in the province in the coming time.

Accordingly, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to quickly open training courses to directly foster knowledge and skills on e-commerce; coordinate with e-commerce platforms (Shopee, TikTok) to set up booths for businesses. Regarding the construction of digital technology infrastructure, organize the installation of free wifi systems on e-commerce streets; arrange technical support points, provide advice and guidance on e-commerce, set up hotlines; deploy a cashless payment system, and an e-commerce street identity system.

On the other hand, the Department of Industry and Trade closely coordinates with localities to continue promoting and increasing the number of enterprises and business establishments participating in e-commerce...

With the strong direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the effective implementation of the Department of Industry and Trade and authorities at all levels, the model of e-commerce streets in Thai Nguyen City is gradually taking shape. This is a practical solution for the province's trade and service sector to maintain high growth, bring great added value, and make an important contribution to the overall growth of the province.
